Opening day is Saturday, August 22nd.  Last day is Sunday, October, 4th.

After checking out the fair in uptown today I started thinking... what are some of your favorite events in the cities? Did we miss them or are they right around the corner? I know I am STOKED for the state fair and all the fooooooood I can try! :) What do you enjoy?

The Gay Pride Parade was over the top this year! And the riding lawnmower races in Crosslake were pretty special, too, though it was more fun before they started making competitors take off the cutting blades.

The Zombie Walk is still to come, which generally brings out the very best in people.

But you're right, the State Fair is always the big kahuna of public events. The Fine Arts building is kind of a hike away from most of the food but well worth the effort. It's just a shame that avian flu has 86'd the exotic chicken competition this year.

Went to the Zombie Crawl a few years ago and rocked out to Sublime with Rome downtown Minneapolis! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to organize a Zombie Crawl girls(&guys?)night! (PM Me if you're interested... could be fun!)

PS interesting about the exotic chicken competition. I hope if you have chickens they stay safe from that flu :)

So many acts, performers, and artisans to see that you can't do it all in a day.  And the food is delicious!

I love Turkey Legs! :)

Veseli Mn Ho down next Sunday Aug 16, just west of I 35 on highway 19

I agree, the Ho Down is always a good time!

I love seeing the creativity of local artisans (such beautiful creations in glass, metal, and other mediums).

I also absolutely LOVE the Renaissance Festival.  Puke and Snot always cracked me up.  The costumes are unbelievable, the characters are amazingly real swigging beer and chowing on big turkey legs, and don't forget the jousting, juggling acts, magicians, and fencing....it's truly like walking through life during those times.  i haven't been there in years but cherish the memories of the times I have been there with my boyfriend and family.

And, I am also a fan of Oktoberfest in New Ulm.   Any excuse to have a beer!  LO

I took German in high school and we always recreated Oktoberfest... it would be awesome to go and really have a beer!! I'll have to look that one up thanks Belinda :)

It's hard to beat a lusty wench who really gets into her roll.

My favorite celebration is the Dalton Threshermans Festival. It's the weekend after Labor Day. It's the bomb!
