I am suspecting I caught something and wanted to test for STD. Anyone has any experience to share or advice on where to go? I am thinking of red door. Is there a long wait there? What is the best time to go there? Anyone with experience getting tested at an urgent care?
I just go to my regular doctor and tell him I want to be tested for all types of STDs. He types it into the computer and sends me to the lab. Never asks a question. Just so happens it is a HealthPartners clinic and you can get all your results online. My insurance pays for all of it.
I really don't care what he thinks - it's my business and he cannot share it with anyone else!
Actually, going to your regular doctor is possibly a mistake. First of all, everything you say/do/get tested for at your normal MDs office is put in your records. Those records are open to any insurance company, e.g. life insurance, health insurance, etc. that you consider doing business with.
There may never be a problem. However, even showing up as being tested could be a red flag to someone with access to your records in the future. It could mean a higher rate for insurance or not even being qualified to get it.
Remember, these days, your records are just as likely to be electronic which means they will follow you for the rest of your life. Though some could say the same about paper records, they are not nearly as easy to 'read'.
...and have your business all on their reconds, granted your test results will be on file with Hennepin County. Anyway, just offer a donation based on your income. The $20 co-pay you would spend at your doctor’s office anyway, is like heaven to the Red Door. Plus, you will get your rapid HIV test back within minutes. Also, testing for STDs is one of the things they specialize in, so there are no judgments whatsoever...especially if you go often. I've had doctors at some of the prevalent clinics (e.g. Park Nicollet, Health Partners, etc) snub their noses and suggest I go somewhere like Plan Parenthood or red door for STD testing. I prefer somewhere that is accepting of my needs. I would also suggest arriving early in the day, so you won't have to wait long to get in.
Their services are geared to the uninsured/underinsured (so, maybe a better option for us girls) - they also offer a full medical/dental clinic on a sliding scale. Great place.
The clinic switched their system around a few months ago. Same services and GREAT people, but you do need to call and make an appointment. I don't know if they even do walk ins anymore, but I've been able to get a next-day appointment many times. Good luck!
I got the complete check (HIV, Syph, etc) 3 wks ago. All neg. btw
They want you to make an appointment. They make them about 15 mins apart. But you can walk in and wait for a cancellation. If you walk in at the end of the shift, the nurse said they almost always squeeze you in.
HIV test is quick with no info needed and you will get your results in 15 mins.
All the other test you have to register with your info. But they don't check if it is true info or not. You have to remember whatever you tell them in order to get your results in about 7 day.
You only have to pay whatever you have to give. I gave $20.
IMHO, everyone in the hobby should be tested every 6 mo to a year.
about std's and get checked every 6 months just in case. What scares me the most is the big HSV because if the virus is active, oral, anal or vaginal intercourse can cause transmission even when one has no visible sores or other signs and symptoms.
