I am looking for a very secure method of surfing TER and hobby sites without leaving a trail.  I had a laptop with a removable hard drive and ran separate drive for the hobby.  This works great, but I have been upgraded and the new laptop does not have an easily removable HD.

I am looking for a  fool proof ideas on how to surf under the radar from a corporate laptop away from work environment without removing the hard drive. Is there a good method of using a secondary bootable drive or thumb drive that doesn't leave a trail on the main HD?  How do you do it?

If not, how do you surf besides a smart phone?  I am open to spending some $$ to do this right.

Wow! I have to admit, Puck is right. Something is definitely in the frikkin water. People asking to quantify LE activity. People wanting to post links to LE activity and now a dude ready to bend over backwards to creep around on his work computer, seek out expensive software to disguise his identity....... when he could just get his own computer and go where the fuck he wanted!

the cdc better get on the job man.

something is seriously in the water!

TheLapDoctor I don't think you get it.  It is a corporate laptop, but up to now I could just quickly physically swap the hard drive out and slide in a hobby hard drive accessing adult sites on a non work internet connection.  When it was time to go back to work then I could swap the work hard drive back and I had a boring old business computer.  This left zero trail for the IT dept at work.

Why drop a grand on a hobby machine when you can use a sweet new laptop and boot off a secondary hard drive.  It is just tougher to figure out when you can't easily pull out the primary hard drive on the new machine.

I think I can buy a hard drive carrier that fits in the DVD slot and change boot order in the bios on the new Win 7 laptop, but I haven't been able to test it out yet.  I am less familiar with bootable usb drives, but I am learnng.

What can I say I am kind of a cheap ass.  All ideas are welcome.

If all you need is something that can surf the web so you can access hobby related sites, there are plenty of inexpensive laptops available for just a few hundred, particularly if you hit a sale or buy a refurbished model

use google chrome or you can run firefox from a u3 usb drive. Also, ie and firefox both has private browsing features.

you want to be stupid here is what I would do...

First if you are using IE for your web browser, download Firefox without letting it be your primary browser and do not allow any of the links and shortcuts to be set...
In short this will make you have to access the exe file of Firefox from the programs file of the local drive...
IMHO the best way to hide your web surfing.. Who is going to go to your program files to open something??? Only someone looking for something, but again I still say Corporate Laptop and the hobby a big NO NO...
