It was mid spring. The playground was bustling as usual. Jump rope, kickball and taunts filled the school parking lot. But not everyone was playing. 'There was a boy...'
13 years old. He stood at the fence that bordered the lot and separating it from the outside, secular world. His mind wandered, as it did every day to escape from where he was.
Today he wondered if there was perhaps, a girl...wondering if there was a boy...and if maybe they happened to be thinking of each other that same moment even though they'd never met. Or if there was a girl and she wasn't thinking of him...
Maybe the girl he was imagining wasn't far away at all. And someday he would see her face, know her name...
7 years later:
she noticed how hot the room was. it was cold when they started. she rolled from her back to her side. the sheets were cool and they absorbed what was left of the light sweat that glittered and sparkled in the dim light. she heard the water shut off in the bathroom and rolled over again to her stomach. the sheets gave soothing coolness to her bare body. she pretended to be asleep.
he stepped out of the bathroom, reaching behind him to shut off the light. lightly covered in little beads of water and still with a towel around his waist, he walked to the bed. he placed a hand on her back and caressed from the center down to her hips and traced up her spine with his index finger.
she shivered and let out a sigh. "i knew you were faking," he said, smiling. "I didn't fake a minute of it." "Wait, what?" she laughed and sat up. raising a hand to his face, she pulled him close. he tried to kiss her and she playfully pulled away. "Now it's my turn for a shower." "You don't need one. You look fine. Your skin feels great..." "Oh sure...I smell." "No...I like that smell. Sexy." indeed, her scent was intoxicating to him. that light sweaty-sweet smell combined with the perfume that hadn't worn off yet and the laundry detergent that rubbed on. "Oh really?" "Yeah. Really." "You're weird..." she turned back for the bed. "yeah, you like it." "I do..."
two steps away and he reached out, grasping for her hand. she reached back, taking him by the back of the reaching hand and guided it to her butt. he squeezed gently. she was standing in front of him now. she slid her hand up his arm to his shoulder, his cheek and to the top of his head. gently pulling his hair, she moved his face up to her stomach. he kissed passionately, massaging her half-in half-out belly button with his tongue. he kissed up as he stood, his hand moving higher behind her.
he fully embraced her now, kissing her mouth. their eyes closed, they stood there. she reached down and dropped the towel off of him. "what now?" "what do you mean?" "aren't you tired?" "not really, why? are you?" "well, kinda...five times..." "awwww....I'll let you rest then baby and you can just hold me." "okay."
they kissed again and he bent down just enough to pick her up. her arm slid around the back of his neck, gripping his shoulder. his arm slipped behind her knees and he lifted. he could feel her skin sticking to him slightly. he loved it. holding her close to his chest, he turned and sat down on the edge of the bed and cradled her.
he looked down at her. her breathing was light and barely noticeable. he found her eyes and asked "do you want the bed?" "no. I want you." "well you already have me, silly. I meant--" "I know what you meant. I want you to hold me a little more." "Okay." he smiled at her. "thank you."
"I'm ready now." "okay." he stood up and turned to lower her to the bed. setting her down and pulling his arms out from behind her back and knees, he crawled over her. he laid down next to her, propped up on his elbow. she copied his pose. they smiled at each other. "hi." "hi." she giggled. "come here often?" "five times today..." he laughed. "you're dirty," he whispered. "well you said I didn't need a shower!" "oh shut up!" they both laughed. "wanna stay here tonight or shall I take you home?" "I like it better here. I feel more at home here."
"are you really that tired?" "yeah, I'm sorry." "no, it's okay. I guess I'm feeling pretty beat too. just kinda ignored it." "wanna sleep now?" "sure." "need anything?" "no, I don't think so." "okay. be right back." he got up and walked around the room, blowing out all the candles. when he got to the light switch, he looked back to the bed. "hey can you light the candle on the night stand please?" "yeah." she opened the drawer and found matches. she pulled one from the book, struck it and lit the candle. the overhead light went out and he made his way back to the bed.
before he climbed in, he opened a window. a warm breeze wafted through the window, bringing in sounds of the city outside. traffic, and people walking by... the scent from the candle and the sounds from outside made her feel more at peace. she reached for him as he climbed into bed. he pulled the sheet over them and draped his arm over her. they scooted a little closer and he gently patted her back.
"sleep now." "okay. sweet dreams." she smiled and sighed. "they all came true..."
