Dropping weight by diet alone is very painful and not very productive.  For long term change and success, both diet and exercise are needed.  One limits carbs, sugars and calories.  One helps your body burn them at higher rate.  The combination helps cut fat while not putting you into starvation mode.  If your body goes into starvation mode, any carbs and sugar you eat will go directly into fat leaving you worse off than when you started.

Wondering if anyone here is doing the keto diet and loving it? I started about a month ago and am seeing great success (down 11 lbs!) I am so curious if any hobby buddies are on the keto train! PM available if you don't want to reply publicly :) Just making some positive conversation :) I don't work for the Keto companies. Just adding a link and pic for those who don't know what it is, less googling for you!

xoxo Hope everyone has a beautiful day

My office mate at work, was on it this fall, went off during the holidays and back on in January.  Worked well for her.

She did not do well the first couple of weeks, tired, weak, could not sleep...Once she transitioned she was fine.  My shrink lost a mountain of weight on Keto, 35+lbs.

I quit smoking in October, gained 25 lbs, uhg, have not lost the weight.  I feel like a fat piece of shit.  My dieting goal is to see my dick again when I stand and pee.

Looking into several different "diets" currently,  Whole30, Keto, modified Atkins, Under Armor my fitness pal app ...  My exercise is much more limited, nursing some physical ailments that limit many activities.
Doing physical therapy for my low back, shoulder and hip.

I abused my body as a young man and am paying for it now.

Curious what others are doing.
thanks Nat

Great question! The first day was fine, day 2-4 were hellish, feeling nauseous, tired, overall flu-ish, but with help from chicken bone broth I made it through! After day 4 it all seemed to click, and now a month in my body is doing very well using fat for fuel instead of carbs! I have had a few cheat days, and it hasn't taken me out of ketosis (I choose decent cheat meals, no huge bowl of pasta yet!). The first two or three weeks the scale didn't budge but low and behold dedication pays off! It has been very rewarding and motivating to see. I used to over eat due to stress and emotions, and I feel like I have much more control over what I consume and therefore how I live my life! :) Don't get too down on yourself, congrats on quitting smoking!! I gained 25 lbs too and with this keto I hope to lose 35-40. I think it is totally attainable! My sister did Whole30 and absolutely loved seeing how gluten and dairy affected her inflammation. I use the Carb Manager app for my macro tracking and it works amazing! Join a keto group on facebook and let them inspire you and answer any questions you may have :) I honestly haven't hit the gym once this whole month, and now that my body is used to the food I'm eating, I will be in the gym again! Excited to see what it looks like when I do both together. Even walking while on keto helps increase circulation and releasing fat from storage :)

Was hoping for a new current photo of you.  11 lbs off that beautiful curvy body of yours would be stunning!

Have to see up close and personal like.   Been awhile.

I will get right on this. I have some selfies but I feel like a whole photoshoot is needed now. Hehe.

I started dieting and working out again a couple of month ago.  I am down two pant sizes and 20 lbs.  I work out in the morning lifting weights 4 days a week for an hour.  I use the elliptical for 20  minutes twice a week and take one day off for recovery.  I quit pop.  I only eat eggs, veggies and fruits during the day.  I eat my normal dinner.  I have been really happy with the results so far and I am never hungry without eating.

Quitting pop, sugar and gluten will really help a lot! You don't need to do an extreme diet as long as you are conscious of what you are eating :) Sounds like you're on the right track, congrats on losing 20 lbs that is awesome!! I try to hit a gallon of water a day, and I hate pop/juice/etc. since sugar tastes funny to me now! It makes it easier :)

In general diet (calorie restriction) is how you lose fat.  Exercise is used to maintain muscle mass (otherwise the body will lose muscle along with the fat.)

The higher your metabolic rate, the more calories your body will use.  Exercise increases metabolic rate. Thus exercise helps lose fat.  Some types of exercise like resistance training helps maintain and even increase muscle mass.  And muscle uses more calories than fat.

Yes yes and yes you guys are spot on! :)

It's more-so a low fat form of keto though and I hate pork rinds lol.
