I used to be stunned by that as well.  Then I saw another posting on the porn star board that explained it all.  Apparently there are free search engines available out there that show if a picture has been used somewhere else on the web.  That's how a lot of people ferret out the stolen pics as well.  It sort of restored my faith in humanity, as I was worried that some people seemed to have an encyclopedia-like knowledge of porn stars...
