Does anyone know of a hotel (hopefully cheap) in the Bloomingtion/eden prairie/ western burbs area that will take a cash deposit on a room?

I can't afford to use my credit card or even have them take a swipe of it, in fear that for whatever reason it gets charged, or uncharged, or whatever, and my wife will see it...

Help...

Get a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express gift card.  Get the ones that do not require a name on it. Use it just like a CC.

The other question you did not ask, do they want to see a photo ID?  Most so require one.

Well, I'm not worried about my name on it... I'm worried about getting a BILL back to my house, or if I used my bank/debit card, that my wife would see it on our statement...

Most hotel want your address, email, & phone info.  There have been guys on here that have gotten marketing information from a hotel.  Be very careful, or better yet, do an incall.  Let the lady get the room, and pay her for it.

Think with the big head, the little one will always get you into trouble.

If you try to pay with cash, they generally STILL want a credit card number.  It also raises their attn if you don't check out the next day and it becomes a pattern.  Change it up on where you are going and don't become complacent, no matter how many times you've done this.

..they can be much more expensive in the long run. JMHO

I always just leave the key in the room regardless of the reason for my visit unless there is a reason why I should go to the front desk.

Most hotel offer a fast checkout, they slid the bill under the door at night.  If the recipe is still there in the morning, they know you left the night before.

perhaps it is the paying with cash and not checking out that draws their attn-years ago I was refused a room at "the 6" after paying cash on several occasions.  BEFORE I was ever a provider!

That is pretty bad when "the 6" won't give you a room. I once paid cash and had to give them a deposit that was refunded at check out the next morning.  That was many years ago, and I was traveling on business.

I would not pay cash today, that is why I recommended the V/MC gift card.  They are used just like any debit card.

you could get a CC using the PO Box for an address and keep the statements from reaching your house. I still maintain a PO Box even tho it's been years since I've needed one.

If you get the really big PO box, and a really small lady......

You could borrow a buddy's card...pay cash when u check in!!

Or find in call hosts!

Don't know if you've been there before or not but that place is a complete and total DUMP. Popular place for drug dealers to set up shop...well it used to be before the police started hanging out in the parking lot 24/7.

not the check out. Police often go and get the names of all guests that pay with cash to check them for warrants etc. Cash is a red flag to hotel workers, as that is the M.O. of most people up to no good... so to speak. In the case of the OP, he is doing nothing illegal so I don't think that is a huge issue.

If it is a deposit, do you get it back?  Sorry that's just wrong.

It may not be a legal issue, but the last thing he is going to want is LE barging in and talking to them.

You all missed the easy solution.  Just meet the provider before hand in the parking lot, pay her the room fee and have her call with the room number.  

Just make sure she has a good rep or you will suffer from cash and dash.

I doubt it would go that far if he's a legit guy...then again they may wonder what a legit guy is doing in such a dive...kind of like when the cops see white guys in business suits driving their Mercedes through the ghetto. lol

But it would be a better option to go to pawn america or someplace similar and pick up one of those pre-paid Mastercards, few decent hotels takes cash these days.

Hotels know that nobody pays in cash but guys and gals doing tricks and similar shady characters.  They will scrutinize your driver's license with extra zeal.  And remember you, particularly if you start to make it a regular routine.  

Those gift cards -- you can get larger denomination ones at a mall customer service center -- SOMETIMES do not work on certain credit card charging systems.  I don't know why.  But if it does not work, the front desk will be less suspicious about a cash payment.  

If you get a credit card with a PO Box, be sure it is not a second credit card with the same company.  And be sure you never give them a correct home address or a correct home phone number.  They have a way of flipping addresses over time, and next thing you know, there is the statement in your home mailbox.  AND they have a way of calling a leaving a message on your home answering machine when they see any unusual charge -- you know, like a hotel in your own city.  AND the fact of the both the card and your PO Box address will appear on your credit report if you ever have to get one.  That PO Box will stay on that credit report as a historical address for you till the day you die.  

Most towns have at least one "no tell" motel that charges by the hour, and has mirrors on the ceiling.  Surely the Twin Cities must have several???????????????????????

hotels DO NOT accept GIFT CARDS. what you need to have is a pre paid visa. that they will except. there is not bill sent to you ever. you can get one at a checks cashed location very easily.  the motel 6 is a terrible idea.  places like that actually work with the police. if they see suspicious activity they will let the police know. they dont care, they already got your money for the room.

They are the same.

A gift card is a card that is "loaded" with the amount purchased. Once it is spent it is done. A pre paid Visa is an actual Visa credit card, but rather than have credit advanced to you, you give them the money up front and then are able to swipe the card like a credit card and deduct if from your account.  You send them more money and you have more available on the same card.  Unlike a gift card it is actually seen as a real credit card with the credit limit being the amount you have currently available.  Think of it as a checking account.  Major Difference!
