I can hear the response now, "yeah right". However, I came across a review that talked about a first timer who met with an independent provider in public, she later screened him and they were off to the races. I may go with this provider but there's an age gap and others may be more to my liking.
I'm interested in giving this a shot to get established. Personal information would be limited to one person (an experienced independent mostly likely), not an agency or P411. Ideally, this one provider then references for you later and as long as you stick with people who work off references only, you keep your exposure pretty limited. Can anybody point me in the right direction if they know of a provider who MAY be open to this? I realize I may find out she's not willing/doesn't do that anymore/whatever. P411 for example allows searching for "Newbie Friendly" providers, along with lots of other criteria. Searching just on "Newbie Friendly" in Minnesota comes up with 40 providers, some who are visiting but most local, in a variety of ages, services etc.
Maybe some of those providers - there's a few who do check in here once in awhile - will see your post and contact you. I haven't met any of these 40 providers and even if I had I wouldn't want to speak for them in this matter.

I'll look more closely at P411, my prior impression of it was that the majority of those labeled newbie friendly, also said their criteria was 1+ or 2+ references, so I wrote off.
