I was just kicking back relaxing with a cocktail Memorial Day afternoon when I got the call. It was the Texas State Hwy Patrol telling me that our 24yr old son was in a fatal motorcycle accident late Sunday evening. It's been a couple of weeks now and he's been laid to rest, but not a day goes by where I don't think of him. Take care all, be safe and enjoy the summer....I'm going to try...
It is so diffficult to even relate to your loss, but all of us who are parents have a natural compassion for you. Take care of yourself and keep his memory alive! Thank you for sharing here!!!
.....how that feels...and no words are adequate to express sympathy. Sometimes it's best to sit in mute solidarity.
I have two adult daughters, and, yes, that's my worst fear. They're the loves of my life, and an important part of me would die if either passed before I did. Parents are NOT supposed to bury their children!
I am so very sorry for your loss. You & your family are in my prayers. I am a mother of seven, one of which I lost at birth. It was devastating. I cannot imagine the incredible sorrow you must be dealing with after having had 24 years with him & then suddenly he is gone.
and well meaning friends offered condolences & platitudes about the meaning of his accident. Listen to the condolences. Ignore the rest. We fought like cats & dogs, and I miss him every day.
Recovering from grief takes time, it is different for everyone but it will not happen overnight. Regardless of when you recover, you will likely continue to think of your son everyday. That is not a necessarily a bad thing and do not view it as a negative.
Best wishes to you in the days, weeks and months ahead.

I always hated the saying " Time Heals All Wounds". Time doesn't heal wounds. Time only lets you get used to the pain...
During times like these, My mind remembers a line from a children's book called Going on a Bear Hunt, where it says, "We can't go over it, we can't go under it, we'll have to go through it." We never get over the loss of a child, we have to go through it, we learn to manage it, we learn to deal with it, there is no way around it. You have my number, feel free to use it.

I'm not a parent, so I don't want to pretend to know what you're through. I lost a good friend 2 years ago in October. We had made it a semi-regular habit to get a 12-pack of Newcastle and watch "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO friday nights. Drink, debate, joke etc. My neighbor called to express concern that she had left a few messages, and hadn't heard back - asked me to check up on him. As I was walking down the alley I saw the reflections of flashing red lights and I was thinking, "Oh Shit". Sure enough when I got in front and saw the ambulance, the driver confirmed it was my friend who passed away due to medical complications.
Anyway, my point is that it's very hard to lose someone you care about. Thanks for sharing this, I'm sure everyone here can empathize.
I have never experienced it myself, but I know that it is something that takes time to deal with. Others that I know have lost their sons. Its devastating. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family at this difficult time Ranger.
