I recently sent an email requesting a same day visit from a very well regarded local provider. I was surprised to get a quick responses with available times - which turned out to be 9am - 4pm!

This wasn’t an anomaly - often when I request availability from the few I visit (all highly reviewed) it doesn’t seem to matter much if I’m a week out, a few days out and day of - there always seems to be completely open schedules.  

Are there really only a few hundred mongers in the Cities? Are there way too many providers for the TC market? Do they list all times even when some are booked? If certain ME crews are in the same situation (I.e., they have wide open schedules) why would they ignore so many quality clients?  

It’s bizarre - any ideas what’s going on?

I imagine most providers get a lot less business than we might suppose.  In the past it was very rare that I didn't get the day and time I initially proposed.

But also, even if they had two clients a day (which would be a pretty good business) that still leaves a lot of hours in the day.  So in  that sense it is not too surprising they happen to be available when you inquire.
