If you like downtowns, many visitors use downtown hotels in Minneapolis.  Most of the suburbs around Minneapolis are OK but Bloomington has been a problem area at times as has St. Paul, Brooklyn Park, and Brooklyn Center, plus most of the suburbs south of the Minnesota river.
