Minnesota

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Took a few trips the last few months to several Midwest locations. I almost always travel through Madison and then on to points south or east via Rockford or Chicago, finally ending up in Indiana, Ohio, or Pennsylvania.

Just wondering who the best highway drivers are (what states) as far as manners (moving over to let someone pass in the fast lane)? Worst drivers?

I've noticed that Wisconsin women are often oblivious to this common courtesy and refuse to move over no matter how many cars are behind them. I'm not talking about wall to wall cars in all lanes where you can't move over but sparsely trafficked areas.

I even got flipped off by a Wisconsin woman on my last trip for driving behind her for a few miles before passing to her right. No, I wasn't on her ass tailgating her but it was clear I wanted to pass her.

More Illinois drivers moved over in WI than WI drivers did which was surprising as Illinois does not have the best/most courteous drivers, at least in my experience.

Indiana seems to be the most willing to move over but this is only based on my going there or through there 5-6 times recently.

WI ladies are by far the rudest. Not getting enough at home?

One IL man won the asshole driver of the year award while nearing causing an accident in a construction zone (1 lane going 30 MPH) before it opened up. He continued to be Mr. Asshole tailgating and pushing drivers to get out of his way. He was going so fast that drivers far ahead, half mile to mile ahead, were hurriedly moving out of his way. My only regret is that I didn't get a picture of his license plate to send to the highway patrol up ahead of him.

Anyway, best and worst highway states?

Not sure where Minnesota would be as I never drive on the highways here other than the Cities. My question is referring to open highway driving, long distance.

Sorry for the rants lol.

Here's another guy thing that sucks. These t-shirts that say: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way". You ever see that? This is more of that stupid Marine Corps bullshit. Obsolete, male impulses from a hundred thousand years ago, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way". You know what I do when I see that shirt; I obstruct. I stand right in the guy's path, force him to walk around me, he gets a little past me, I spin him around kick him in the nuts, rip off his shirt, wipe it on my ass, and shove it down his fucking throat. Hey, listen that's all these marines are looking for; a good time.

my general frustration with living in Minnesota is the traffic.  Many of the states have lane laws requiring drivers to only pass on the left and if in the left lane to only be passing someone.  Obstructing traffic in the left lane carries a fine in 32 states.  Minnesota and Wisconsin do no have these laws.  Therefore in Mn, and Wi they just drive where ever and don't understand frustration from someone used to civilized driving.

I just need to work on those other 18 states, starting here in MN and moving on to WI.

...of the law that required motorists in the far left lane (the fast lane) to yield to other motorists and move to the right lane if they were moving faster than you. Even if you were moving at the posted speed limit and they were exceeding the speed limit, you are required to move over and let them pass. This is a very common sense law. Those that don't follow it are being passive -aggressive. I have no qualms at all about passing on the right. I've only heard of one time where a motorist travelling the posted speed limit was ticketed for not pulling over and letting faster traffic pass on the left. I'm sure it's happened many times, tho.

than Canadians.  The absolute worst.  I have found that TC drivers are for the most part, pretty damn good.  Drove thru Chicago once, I guess around, but I thought I was in the Indy 500.  I prefer the open two lane highway.  Up here you can see the cops coming for miles.

I'll concure with that and add that they also have zero clue how to stay out of our designated bike lanes, those are for cyclists like myself not a way for you to cut off another driver or an extra "right lane" for you to drive as ridiculously slow as possible thus annoying other people who have common sense whilst driving . Don't get me started on Wisconsin....

...behavior. All the dude has to do is to pull over to the side of the road and let the faster traffic pass. Isn't that one of the unwritten rules of the road?

I like this cop's manner of dealing with this kind of situation...

And when the road expands to add another lane, some of them drift over into it even though they are not driving any faster.  Ticketing people for not observing "slow traffic keep right" would cut down on traffic congestion more than any other single action.
