Everybody is addicted to their phones these days. It takes a lot of discipline to not grab for it and check up on whatever you like to check up on. . I think you see it more at the end of a session when things are winding down and everyone has been off their phone for a chuck of time. . I give them some slack. Especially if it is a quick peek. But if they go into total ignore mode, that's a bit less tolerable.

Once, a provider I’d seen a few times got a call early in our session about her elderly mother. It was an urgent call and took only about ten minutes, and afterwards the provider apologized profusely and appreciated being able to address the situation so she could give me her full attention. Which she did. I was already at attention!

Although I would call it an expectation, not something I would actually ask of her. There was a time before cell phones when if you weren't at home, the office, or some known place, that someone wanting to get a hold of you simply had to wait until you were at a place where you could be reached.
