An Apple Valley man has been charged with arranging a deal to have sex with an 8-year-old girl in a St. Paul motel.

xxxx, 58, told a woman he'd be interested in having sex with a child, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday and made public Thursday in Ramsey County District Court.

The complaint, written by Special Agent Jan May of the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, gives the following details:

The woman, referred to as an informant, reported to police that xxxx had expressed his wishes to her. It was not clear from the document how xxxx and the woman knew each other.

Police set up a sting in which the informant called xxxx and recorded the conversations. She told xxxx she would find a family that could "supply" a girl for sex in exchange for money.

"xxxx was asked to pick between a 5-year-old, 8-year-old or 12-year-old. xxxx picked the 8-year-old girl" and agreed to pay $300, plus $100 if he were allowed to video-record the abuse, the complaint states.

He was told to bring candy for the child.

Wearing a large hat and sunglasses and bearing an unspecified kind of candy, xxxx arrived at a motel on Old Hudson Road in St. Paul about 12:30 p.m. Monday, the complaint says.

Another BCA agent, posing as a friend of the informant, met him there. Arrangements were made to record the sex. The agent left the room, saying she was going to get the girl. Police came to the room instead.

On the positive side, it's good to see some LE going after the real sickos out there.  It's like those 20/20 shows in Cambodia and Thailand showing those terrified little girls whose only knowledge in life is servicing the old men from the US and Germany brought to them by their pimps (frequently family members).  I wish they would leave the rest of us alone who engage in, with a few exceptions, a victimless crime.

Assuming the story is accurate, he should spend the rest of his life in prison.

What kind of sick shit goes through a guys mind where he gets off with a child that young?  Just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach. I think its worse than even murder.  The child is physically and emotionally damaged for life.

What is really demoralizing is that more than a few providers have stories like this about their childhood, but probably not that young (I hope)

"physically and emotionally damaged for life".     Neither does it need be demoralizing.    With the appropriate care and love, any child of abuse can live a worthwhile, successful, and full life.  Abuse does not automatically throw a life into a permanent state of disorder and chaos.      Yes, abuse does change who a person is but it does not have to be change in an ugly way.  Many can and have used their life experiences (horrible as they are) toward personal growth and public aid.   We must change our thinking......they are survivors, not victims.

This is my hope for all survivors of abuse and is my hope for any and all youngsters that have run into men such as that in this news story.

children shouldn't be subjected to that kind of abuse. or any kind of abuse for that matter.
I'm just glad it turned out the way it did. but who knows how many others there may have been.
especially since he went through the trouble to plan this, he's definitely a candidate for castration.

That's only doing him a favor seeing as that would prevent valuable DNA from being transferred , drawn & quartered would be more suitable for the likes of him.

Those of us who have had kids know how precious they become to us.  It is
totally beyond my imagination how a guy could do something like that.

...the left wing extremists are just as vehement in denying adults the ability to choose to make their own choices in adult to adult encounters. Do you think Nancy Pelosi would endorse a wholesale ban against U.S. prostitution laws? Recall that Harry Reid recently addressed the Nevada state legislature encouraging them to outlaw prostitution laws in that state. The extremist left is just as dangerous as the religious right on the issue of human rights.

As much as these moralists may feel the patrons of prostitution to be depraved, i doubt seriously that they do not seriously see the degree of it being substantially less than that of a pedophile. Something akin to the differnce between jail time and the death penalty for homicides.
