And I'll help keep you warm if you get chilled!

So when will it start snowing?  When it snow's will one get trapped?  Do people drive like idiots when the ground gets white?  How well do they clear the roads?

Have they fixed that awful road with all the construction coming into Duluth?  Or is it still a death trap?  I imagined that thing covered in ice and in my mind it's just not safe.

If I am able to come up during the snowy season and I get trapped, can we compose a team of drivers to get me back to non-snowy country?  :)

Farmers almanac predicts a warmer than usual winter this year.
Probably not much snowfall as last year.
People drive like idiots even if its just raining.

still be 2 or 3 feet.  :)

Thanks! The almanac is the bible to the farmers.  My neighbors live by it!  I believe that it is mostly right so thanks for the info.

* accumulated snowfall  lol
But I really hope its not going to be a brown Xmas it just wouldn't be right.

I ask this question to all my friends who have come from the warmer Mediterranean climate, and yes even my own family. Why Minnesota? What compelled humans to say " hey this frozen tundra looks mighty awesome, much more than beautiful Florida". I mean you come to America and have 50 states to chose, why not Hawaii? Sure there are Tiger and Mako that will eat you alive, but it's WARM! And no snow.

Don't worry dear, the TER emergency response squad will respond should you get stuck.

Sincerely,
Bitter that my idiot parents did not move to Florida.

How funny!  I love it so much up there and due to my health/life this year I didn't get to spend a great deal of time up in the great state of Minnesota this summer.  I miss it!  I miss my friends up there!  Also, there is something about Duluth that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.  It's so peaceful and serene up there.  However, I am scared of the snow as I am scared of water so it makes my trips very seasonal.  It tends to flood way too much in the spring and snow way too much in the winter.  Smh......
I was raised in the wonderfully warm state of Louisiana and literally moved directly in the geographical middle of the US for that exact reason.  If I had millions I would buy homes in several places:  Duluth, somewhere in southern Louisiana, Guam, Cape Town South Africa, Melilla Spain, and Torre del Gerco Italy.

All things considered I'd rather deal with the snow and ice (although I'd much prefer not to have to deal with any of them).

I have often wondered what made my ancestors say "Yes this is a good spot to settle & freeze one's arse at least half the year"  Being Native American, I wonder what were those women thinking? Had I been there, I would have encouraged my man to keep going lol I bet  if they would have done a little more sucking for encouragement to keep going south & less agreeing I would have been raised in a warmer climate;)

The good news is that I have a *lot* of free time, so feel free to count me in to help, pretty much any time.

Hey Leah, our Duluth construction is all finished:) No snow yet, we can only hope you'll get "trapped" when you come up here to see us!
They do a pretty good jobs on the roads, and only a few of us drive like idiots, this is Minnesota after all:)

What ever you do DO NOT BELIEVE the weatherman in Duluth! lol  They are hardly ever accurate. Really not their fault it's the lake & it does what it wants to do. The lake either keeps it away or sucks it in.

I have heard all of the exits are open along the freeway there. If you want a by-pass of that mess
pm me I can get you around it:)

Oh yes, A damsel stuck in the snow can always be saved:)

btw...IF there is snow Duluth is beautiful, all the lights are awesome!!

Happy Travels...

feel safer to travel in the snow.  You all are going on speed dial in case I get stuck.

I am indeed starting to feel better.  With chemo and cancer, as some of you know, you can have a horrible time and then they find the right combo of med.'s and get you going fairly well for a while.  I am still waiting on my much needed break so am not sure when it will be.  However, I do miss all of you.  I have always felt so welcomed in Minnesota and mesh well with ya'll up there.  I fell very peaceful there and I need some peace in my life at the moment!  :)

Having driven all over the U.S.I can say with certainty that Minnesota drivers are the ABSOLUTE worst drivers on the planet.Only in Mn. could a half inch of snow create hundreds of accidents!Whenever it rains, snows or 9is even cloudy, you have to retrain the drivers. Also, only in Mn.,do the slow drivers ride at or below the posted speed limit because they thionk they own the damn road! That same driver will move to the right as soon as he crosses a state line.if you don't beleive me,watch for yourself. There,I feel much better now.

I have driven in every state in the US and I would have to say Texas is the worst.  Remind the Texans they make blinkers on cars for use when switching lanes or turning!!  They also drive so fast the put the limit on some highways at 85mph so they go 95.... That is just crazy scary!  Then they all have big trucks, the bigger the better in Texas, so they feel like they can just run the little people over.  Smh.

As to the wreaks in Minnesota in the rain-I know the reason!!  Somebody needs to run around painting the lines on the roads so you can actually see where the road is taking you.  One evening I was up and it was on the verge of darkness and raining... I was driving along, the sun went down and the road went away.  I couldn't see a thing so I literally got off the highway and took the back roads to my room.  It took forever but was much safer, I suppose.

Whether a junker or new, your tires are the only things that touch the road (hopefully).

Never skimp on tires. Choose very good all-season tires. Replace them if marginal. Or go more extreme and put on snow tires for winter!

For you, front or all-wheel drive is critical, along with traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) at a minimum. Newer cars some really cool stability features (with different names) if you're going that route.

Having rear wheel drive, I frequently disengage my controls  and just let the wheels spin - old school! Gets me out of some tough situations.

No matter the weather we get to our destination.

I have been to Southern States where drivers panic with so much as a half inch of snow.  With way more accidents than you would see in Minnesota and some drivers just abandoning their cars along the highways.

We will get our first snow (1/4 to 1/2in) mid to late JAN. and when it comes I will drive 20mph down the hwy from my house towards Tulsa, OK and snap photo's!  At least every 1/2 mile there will be a car/truck/van/rv/something in the ditch for the entire 47 miles of the trip.  Lol but it's so true!
Before then we will get a little ice storm which is much safer!  They just shut the hwy's down and businesses too.  Anything over 1in of snow and things shut down as well.  I think we need to borrow one of your states snow plows and maybe you guys could save us some salt/sand?  Wait but with all that salt we wouldn't be able to keep our cars so long-LOL.
