you are implying that it is dangerous just to drive down these streets (I wouldn't know as I have never done so).

When I said take a drive, that is exactly what I meant.  I didn't say, nor do I think it is implied, that I am going to pick someone up.  I'm just wondering the state of those areas compared to what I've heard in the past.

I was just wondering with the high unemployment and all how these places have fared.  Anyone know if there has been a boom in pimping and streetwalking or if all the lost jobs has gotten rid of the customers and hence, cut down on the problems I always heard about?

Lol I'd go take a drive myself to check but I have no clue what parts of those streets are/were supposedly the hot spots for that sort of thing.

or just stop into the local precinct and ask? I'm sure some local homeless shelters or non-profit human services agencies could give you some figures, or maybe like you suggested...some good 'ol fashioned detective work might work to. Don't get any gum stuck to your shoe!

I haven't noticed much of a difference. I'm a south sider, so I don't make it up to Broadway too often, but Lake (and the surrounding streets), from what I've seen, is about the same as it was this time last year.

And unless you're driving in a blinged-out suburban assault vehicle at 3 in the morning (which... who knows, you might be), I'm going to go ahead and say it's not dangerous. But I'm kind of a hardcore city girl so take it with a grain or two of salt. ;)

If those places hasn't really improved all that much, I kind of wonder if targeting those areas instead of dealing so extensively in the "Nice Guys" case would have been better publicity for the MPD.

I have been checking out broadway and penn and lyndale for the last few nights.  I feel safe driving around, and there is definite working girls on penn and broadway still, but usually 1 or 2 on the street.  But I'm thinking about buying a home in the area, the $12,000 asking prices on some of these homes is too great to overlook.  And just think, if they can clean up broadway and penn like they have done with Lyndale, the house surely would increase in value.

I don't have to cruise by to know that it is the same as I remember as a homeless young girl. Sometimes people you drive by will jump in your car uninvited. This economy is hurting everyone and the poor stay poor. IMHO. Go ahead and sight see...

Ha ha.

I was walking down Washington Ave. after bar close to a hotel near downtown(I was Maid-of-Honor in a wedding) and I was walking with my shoes in my hands barefoot in a normal looking nice black dress (hair up), and several cars slowed down then sped away when I didn't respond. I found it rather ironic considering what I "do"...

It made me feel just as offended as "normal" women, and really sad for the women who actually work the streets. I can't imagine what that would be like. I know a lot of people in our society would say there is no difference, but I really think there is.

It's like working at say, Schiek's instead of Augie's... or in the non-sex industry, working at McDonald's vs a fancy downtown steakhouse.

There is just a completely different culture involved.

(I know the economy is hurting MY business, but that is a whole other story...)
