just about 100 % of all hotels and motels in this country (cept the change sheets hourly ones maybe) require a credit card to register and these days the mast majority additionally require license or picture id.....

the name etc of the guest.  State law does not require the hotel to check ID but the hotels often believe that it does.  See the linked article about City of Plymouth

Hmmm... well I guess after being in hotel management for eight years leaves me ignorant to the laws we were taught to abide by. I stand corrected. (I guess)

It is possible I was misinformed. I believe it may have been a city ordinance at that time not a state law. Each city is allowed to enforce ordinances that are more restrictive than state & federal law.

Any hoo... I have yet to encounter a hotel that did not require valid ID upon check in anywhere. Have a great weekend!

You should buy an airline ticket from a company that doesn't ask for ID's  and then rent a car from a company that doesnt ask for ID's and then stay at a hotel that doesn't ask for ID's. let us know how your vacation in pakistan turns out.

I've traveled more 99% of the people here. Been to over 30 countries. I've always had to produced and I'd nut I thought there might be some small hotel that do not care about id in the area. Philippine was the only place that I've been to where you can get hotel room by the hour and they don't care about I'd, just $$.

Having gone to college in a Bloomington I can attest to the confusion multiple Bloomingtons cause. If you aren't sure where you are an easy way to figure it out is to look at the license plates on the cars in the parking lot. Just sayin - it is a common problem for those who are geographically challenged. Pity the person that wants to go to Bloomington Indiana and purchases a ticket for Bloomington Illinois - or worse Bloomington, Minnesota.

Yeah, there's nowhere that's gonna let you check in without an ID. Not all require a credit card though (meaning some will take just cash, though you do have to give them extra for a deposit). Not sure if that is useful info or not.
