Their business model is built around taking pieces of data and making connections between them. This is the exact opposite of what we want. Don't use Facebook for any hobby related activities and don't login to Facebook in the same browser session as you are using for hobby related activities.
You need to go farther than just not using the same browser (session). Facebook logs and "connects people" passed on network addresses, too. You need to make sure that you don't access facebook (and other "data mined" sites) from your home network. When you combine IP address with standard browser headers, the serve as a fairly accurate fingerprint. If you don't know want to know all the details and just play safe, then just remember these simple rules:
1. Get a VPN account set up and remember to use it.
Why are there links? Because the serve the interests of the web site owners (Treehouse Park, in this case), which may not be completely aligned with your interests.
FWIW, using the social media links below is basically the same as telling Facebook (Twitter, Google, or whomever) that you are a user of TER. (For the curious, this happens through a thing called 'Referer', see link below.) They don't disclose your TER username or anything (at least not by themselves), but if you click the link to Facebook, say, and login to your Facebook account, then Facebook will know that you access Facebook from TER. (The Google Plus link might allow Google to more easily "hook up" your Google account with TER activity, since TER uses Google Analytics, which means Google is tracking all TER browsing activity on you unless you have taken steps to disable or defeat such tracking.)
