Yes Hell NO with an attitude!

When I was a relative newbie in the biz.......Someone whom I thought was a trusted friend & cohort learned my real first and last name.  That information was used to learn and gain access (probably through Google) to my Facebook site that I thought was harmless to have and maintain.  The person learned the names and whatever other info about my kids and my other family members (including their email addresses).

This post is in answer to Khloe and any other doubters about social networking.  If you do venture, then be maliciously guarded with alias' and other private information when mixing hobbying and social networking (as I was NOT.....stupid for being trusting).  For those of you who still wonder why Milf_Marie disappeared..........her kids got links to her former website, TER ads, TER reviews and more.  She was confronted.  In a way, it was liberating, but not on my terms.  The damage has been done with me.

For those who still endorse the notion of the OP's inquiry, I say make darned sure that you keep social networking and your hobby life as divorced as possible.  I'm actually surprised of the many hobbyists whom I've met have the gumption to send me invites to their "Linkedin" sites.  ARE THEY NUTS?!?!?!?

What do you all think of the use of such sites as twitter, facebook etc as a means to connect/stay connected?

It's wise though for both providers and clients to use aliase accounts.  Some also offer Skype video to connect.

I use twitter, never for scheduling mostly blogging :)

Stay away from Facebook, you don't want or need to be "friending" people, on the other hand having a normal website that simply advertises services is completely in the norm. I do know one girl that uses Twitter, but to be honest as much as I enjoy seeing her I could care less about her Twittering. Why? Because everything outside the scope of our personal business is none of my business so to speak. So then it begs the question, what exactly are you going to Tweet? As a business provider, customer relations IS KEY, however this is not like any other business is it? My perspective so far is that this is quite a strange world, and things seem to somewhat operate the opposite.

I will share this advice. HOW you communicate with clients is much more important than keeping us updated to your every little activity. Do I prefer phone contact, e-mail, or text? Find out, actually ask the person on the other end, what is their preferred method of contact. I do not want to get stuck having to text you for 10 minutes when I have a 1 minute question.

Idk about anyone else but some Hobbyists I know like to be privvie to things they wouldn't see normally from providers
such as candid photos, funny jokes etc things that let them know we have a personality beyond business.
Its also a good way to update your schedule without having to log into your website and updating it every other day. I'd rather tweet than write code lol

Facebook and Google both have a way of taking over your computer and making connections you may not want. I would never use social networking for the hobby it increases the probability of spill over.

If you want to get creeped out, upload some pictures of friends on Facebook and watch Facebook's facial recognition software figure out who they are.

I have seen providers use such sites before. I didnt understand the use but who knows..

Couldn't have said it better myself, Cates!  There is no need to social network yourself in this industry.  .02

Several providers do have FB pages. Nicole Armani is on my friends list. Actually Bud Green's friends list.
I will never have a FB page with my real name on it.

Those providers advising against using Facebook or Twitter seem pretty persuasive.

However...

Have any BDSM/kinky providers considered using or actually use FetLife or similar sites?
