I just learned this term.  Is it for real?  How common is the practice?  
I generally bypass hotel staff, but if true it could be useful in some cities.

Although I'm not so sure I would want to meet some random gal the desk clerk sent up, but even if it didn't work an extra pillow on the bed is nice too.  
I'll probably just stick with doing the research and contacting extra pillows myself.

I don't know about that one.  What if you just want some extra pillows and a provider shows up at your door?  And I don't think I would want to stay at a "shitty" hotel to find out if this works.
