Whitney, the Do Not Call List does indeed work. I was bugged by all sorts of calls until I signed up 6 months ago.  My phone is now quiet and peaceful.  The way I like it in the evening.

Is anyone out there ticked off at me for something I did???

*sarcastically says* I've been signed up by some kind soul for debt solutions and credit repair on the internet.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. :-(
NOW MY PHONE RINGS OFF THE HOOK! It probably will for another week or two!


Did I do something to upset someone? If so, please tell me so I can possibly correct it.

Suggestions of how to get these calls to stop???

This is just downright cruel!

That's my problem. Give them special rings and don't answer them. If you answer, it seems to me that that only gives them incentive to call again....Just like Jehovah Witnesses, never answer the door or they keep coming back.

I think legally they have to put you on their Do Not Call list if you ask them to.

Don't be rude, or they WILL call back--sometimes mere minutes later and maybe in a different language.

There is no "call list" to take you off of, so tell them to put your number on their do not call list.

....or do what I do sometimes and make it fun!  Adopt a silly fake accent and "Wha?  No you have wrong number!  Me no speeka English!"

Yeah just kidding on that last bit..  sorry this is goin' on.  :(

As soon as you can get a word in edgewise, do the following:
1.  Ask to speak to the supervisor/manager.
2.  Tell them to LOG YOUR PHONE NUMBER and not call you anymore.
3.  Confirm the spamming business name and write it down (along with the supervisor's name).
4.  Read back the business name and the supervisor's name and CONFIRM that you have been placed on their DO NOT CALL list.

The phone calls should stop quickly.  The key is that you have to request that they log your number.

Hey Whitney,
Here's the link to the National Do Not Call Registry.  You can register both landline's and cell phone's.  It can take up to 31 days to get the calls to stop.  If they call after that, you can go back to this site to file a complaint.   Just follow the link to register up to 3 phone numbers. If you have more numbers just visit the site again.

Just an FYI, The DNC list is great, however if someone is actually doing what Whitney suspects, i.e. filling out requests for stuff on some website - the DNC list won't stop at least a few calls from coming through.  Reason being is that even if you are on the DNC list, if you "REQUEST" information (whether or not it was you or not) then they can legally call you.  You just have to tell them that it was false information and not to call again.

The first few phone calls the first time around, yes, I found it pretty funny. Then it was followed by an additional 18 more calls that day. At that point, I lost my sense of humor.

I have my phone on mute til 10am tomorrow so I can sleep. :D

However, if you ask them to call you then the DNC list is ineffective. You (whoever this "you" is) "solicited" them by signing up on some website. That website is linked to about 4 companies who then in turn sell these leads to 50-60 different companies all around the country and a few in Canada! They will hound you til you say yes!

I have got them to stop calling me by telling them it was a prank and I have no debt besides student loans. Most have been cool with it. However, 86 phone calls in ONE day is ANNOYING and air time gets expensive!  


Whoever was sweet enough to find this funny... I'd love to know! IT'S SUPER MEAN! It's not like I NCNS someone and that's why they did it. I wouldn't ever do that because that's mean too. I'm just not a mean spirited person.

Here's what I did. Get one of those air horns used on small boats and give them a blast of that! If there's anything I hate,it's those basterds that won't get the message!

In the past, just asking a company to put you on the do not call list could wind up being profitable if you were willing to press charges.  If you asked them to put you on the do not call list and they violated that request, they were liable to you for $1500 per call.  You would have to keep a log and somehow prove that all the calls were from the same entity, even if the numbers were different.

I had a similar problem with a company that was distributed throughout Florida and used the FCC to report the pattern.  Those calls stopped.  I can't find the link right now.  I think I just googled the calling numbers and stumbled on the reporting mechanism because others were complaining as well.
