I just noticed the "Like" feature the other day for the first time. What's the purpose? And yes, if you have a like button why not a dislike button? Do you Like the post or the poster?
Maybe it would cut down a little of the tiresome bickering sometimes seen. You know, re, re, re, re, re ... where's Aretha when you need her?
It might more gently let someone know (by the sheer number of "Dislikes") that their post sucked for whatever reason. (And it's helpful that you can only vote once re distortion.)
IMHO, flamers and trolls are best dealt with by ignoring them. I really think everyone knows that, it's just hard to do. A new and hesitant poster, on the other hand, would certainly be discouraged from trying again if their post is "disliked".
Quite frankly, if a reader doesn't like a post he/she should move on rather than respond negatively. Not all posts have to be perfect!
