There are so many things about this article that are (1) obvious and (2) problematic. I think we all realize there are legitimate issues regarding sex trafficking but we all know this will potentially target those of us who entered the business willingly, consensually, and of sound mind.
"Johns live all over — rural towns, suburbs and cities — and tend to be married, between 30 and 50 years old and from middle and upper socioeconomic backgrounds (for example, 84 out of 103 men arrested for prostitution-related offenses didn’t use a public defender). They are mostly white, reflecting the state’s population. While some men of color and women also buy sex, they do so at much lower numbers, the report said."

Exactly right. The UMN has been studying prostitution with a bent on twisting all transactions into the non-voluntary, trafficking, slavery angle for several years. This is another study from the same department.
... while the article does state that this research was funded by the Women's Foundation of Minnesota, that Foundation is funded primarily by Minnesota State dollars, i.e MY money. We pay for research that shows what we already know.... some men of all races with a little extra money in their pockets like to pay a woman to have sex with them! All of the others wish they could afford it. Let's defund Women's Foundation of Minnesota and free our minds! Disturbingly, this article equates pay for play with sex trafficking which those who are enlightened to the truth know isn't even remotely the case. We oppose sex trafficking! (please quote that in your next article about white men who seek sex with only consenting partners)
There is nothing, absolute NOTHING that will reduce the demand for sex. There will always be a demand for sex outside of a traditional male/female monogamous relationship. I can't believe that taxpayer funds actually study ways to do that. It's in our DNA. Let's use that money to repair our bridges or return it to us taxpayers instead.
The research was funded by the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, which is heading up a 40-member committee with Hennepin and Ramsey counties to put together a plan to prevent and combat sex trafficking before, during and after the 2018 Super Bowl.
We can expect to hear more and more of this kind of thing as they warn us about the horde of trafficked women supposedly about to descend on Minnesota in late January/early February. It's the same thing that has happened in other cities hosting Super Bowls and other major events. Only thing is there's no hard evidence supporting the claim that all this trafficking is happening.
I'm all in favor of arresting traffickers. But as is the usual case, most of those arrested will be consenting adults.
I would like to conduct a survey. That would be to see how many of the husbands of the women in the foundation hobby, and how many plan there hobby around their wives foundation meetings.
... how they determined that "Most buyers don’t distinguish between trafficked women or not,...". How could they know that? Did they ask all the tens of thousands of buyers within the study timeframe whether they cared if the woman was trafficked or not? If they drew this conclusion only from guys who were caught, that's a very small, and skewed, sample.
