Taking a trip and was on another board and saw this post about a google image search. One can never have enough tools in the research shed.

I am wondering if Google has a bigger database and a bigger stash of cached images from older ads.

Considering Google just announced this feature 6/14/11 I don't think it predated Tineye.  They've had an image search, but not a search by image.

Yes they have, if you had the right plug ins on your browser only a true nerd would know this, it is after all a SEARCH ENGINE. That's just a shortcut widget to the same application thats been availble.for years nothing more.

But, the rest of us who aren't so privileged just got access to searching by image this last month.

Has images.google.com existed for a long time?  Yes.
Have you been able to use a picture to initiate a search on google before June?  No.

There is a big difference in searching FOR an image versus searching BY an image.  You seem to not understand it's not a 'widget' or an 'extension' or an 'add-on' it's a new feature that Google introduced 6/14/2011.

And if my word isn't good enough maybe you can write engadget and every other "nerdy" publication that reported on Googles announcement last month.

Meh.

Doesn't anyone remember that picture of the "perfect "woman that circulated all through the intetwebs a few years back?  That's what they used to try and track down where the image originated from so they could Find out who she was, turned out it was just a CGI some kid made lol
