Outside of the times they're used for the sake of humor, I fail to see the purpose of the alias. Your handle IS an alias. Hiding your handle to ask for recomendations is suspicious, and IMO deserves no response.

The question always is why is someone using an alias instead of their own handle when the handle doesn't reveal a person's real identity.  So what is going on that they don't want their handle associated with the post.  It may be innocent but it may not and assessing the credibility of an alias is harder.
