No matter if the price we are paying is worth the cause - that's one hell of a salute. Can we expect salutes for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard to follow?
And while we are at it, how about Merchant Marine FBI Border Patrol Custom CIA NSA DIA National Guard Reserves
Don't know how to take this one. My son is in the service and at this point, he is not involved (thankfully).
The picture can be taken many ways. A way to say thanks to the service men (but not really to the women) A joke. A complete slam to our service men and women. A statement against the war. I am sure others have opinions as well. As I have seen many of Misty's posts, I am assuming that was it well intended.
I am not trying to disuade anyone from posting anything. I have posted my share of humor and comments. But the more I thought about this - the more I had to get this off my chest.
While I may not agree with how we went about the attack - without UN support, I do agree in the desired outcome. I also want to make it clear, not just because my son is in the service, but because when I was and coming home to the slams and everything else that servicemen and women had to at that time - that I want to support our service folks 100%. They are doing as they have been instructed to do. They are following orders, not initiating the attacks. They put everything - and I mean everything on the line every minute of every day to make sure others whom they have never met, can enjoy a few of the pleasures of life we take for granted.
So please, even if you don't agree with the act - Go ahead and protest. That is your right, and they are fighting to make sure you are safe when you excersise that right. But what ever your ideaologies and thoughts, please, please support the folks that are doing thier jobs and protecting us. Send an e-mail of encouragement or send donations to the USO. When they come home, make sure you let them know you may not agree with what went down, but you at least appreciate the fact they were willing to lay it on the line for you and for others.
To have anyone even attempt to express thanks at this point is a blessing! Honestly WHY are we in Iraq now? We have been given so many uncredited reasons for being involved, at this point all we can do is hope and pray for our mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters. Kudos to Misty for even daring to express thanks at this juncture!!!!!
At least so far we have not seen any stupid comments directed against our men and women in uniform. Maybe the peace movement - and I actually have to agree with them on many points this time - has learned from the errors of the past. Once one wears Uncle Sam's (or anyone else's) uniform freedom of choice becomes a thing of the past.
As a combat veteran of the war (Vietnam) that the protesters had there way, this quote from General George S. Patton sums up my feelings on the current war with Iraq, "Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." Thanks again Misty for the personal salute today.
