A few words about moderation

Moderation isn't punishment, though it may feel like it. I don't moderate posters because I dislike them or their opinions, as evidenced by the number of posts I approve making me out to be a flaming asshole.

I don't like to moderate people - it makes more work for me.

I do it because I want to maintain a safe, and where possible civil, environment for providers and mongers alike. The reason someone is moderated is very simple: I don't have a high confidence level that they will refrain from posting something damaging to another persons safety, reputation or livelihood. Most especially when I make an effort to let people know why certain things should be discussed with me or with Admin before posting, and then that request is ignored.

There are people here who think I'm a board nazi, lording it over my little fiefdom. That's fine, it doesn't keep me up at night. There are also those who appreciate my efforts - that's fine too.

Bottom line is that simply because I can see behind the scenes more than the average poster I make calls as to what is and is not appropriate. I make mistakes, sure - any time anyone has a problem with the way I handle this job, feel free to let Admin know with an email to [email protected] or by clicking on 'contact us' - but I won't let a few cause unnecessary harm to others through thoughtlessness, callous disregard or malicious intent.

Feel free to vent - and as always, Admin welcomes volunteers for this job. Feel free to apply or nominate.

I am not venting, I enjoy reading the posts here and contributing when I have something useful to say.  Just a question on posting 'rules.'  Is there somewhere that things are explained as to why this or what is that?  As an example, I had a review rejected and a board post rejected because the provider was de-listed.  What does that mean?  Another time I had a review rejected because the provider didn't put there name in the ad, but I have seen some reviews where the reviews have gone through.  I wish I could find a specific example of that but this was a while ago.  Is there a place that explains these things?  Granted I have not read all of the small print on everything and I am not bitter about it, just confused.

By the way, moderating is a thankless job.  Thanks for what you do.

And thanks for the kind words.

Yess! Moderate me harder, HARDER! Make bigger circles! Aaaaaahhh.

Hold on I'll get you a towel.

You mean . . .  put up or shut up?  Well, now that's a whole different kettle of fish.  I'm just a whiner, not a do-er.

You seem to be doing the job the way its described.  What else are you supposed to do?
