Is it possible to do anything in public without being filmed? When a person walks into a hotel, bar or down the street are you being filmed? I recently found out my phone tracks my movements. Any input might be interesting on the board. Obviously some activities are best kept private. Thanks in advance.

If you are utilizing an iPhone, you can turn off location services. Search the threads, quite a while back, I remember there was quite a lot of talk about tracking, etc.

Your phone is still picked up by local cell towers when its on and LE can triangulate current and past  locations.  They need a search warrant to obtain this info. Murder of Barway Collins illustrates how police used phone to verify the murderer was at the site where the body was dumped.
BTW greatest tool of law enforcement because most criminals are too stupid to turn off their phones.
As for being filmed on security cams:  that's the new reality.  You could employ the trailer trash invisibility cloak which is a hoodie and sun glasses

In the GPS mode,  tracking can be quite precise
In the cell phone tower locating mode, the number of overlapping towers plays a huge role and have a fairly large area, eg. often cannot identify what building you are in.
Wifi tracking can be quite precise.

Turn your phone off.  But that will not stop the detective your wife hired who has hacked your computer and has a gps on your car.

Anyway: The good news is that paranoia delays premature ejaculation.

Buy a prepaid phone, pay with cash, take battery out when not in use. (most phones made within past 2 years have non-removable battery. )

Even if phone is 'off', it can be remotely turned back on unless the battery is removed.

There IS something that would prevent a 'flash' photo snapped of you.  anti-paparazzi clothes.  (no link embedded, do the search yourself :P

IF you truly that paranoid, then perhaps you shouldn't have posted here.  Each login / times are logged on a server somewhere. (along with your IP address, unless you used an anonymous browser.)

...which was unknow to anyone until they searched her computer and followed its digital trail after her murder. On her phone they found a number from an untraceable TracPhone placed on the evening of her murder. They were able to determine what cell tower the phone pinged and the mfg ID of the TracPhone. Then they traced at what store the phone was purchased and soon came up with a CCCTV video of a man purchasing the phone (traced to the store's records of when the phone was bought). Parking lot surveillance video showed him getting into his car, identified his car and they had their prime suspect.

Yes, cameras are everywhere in public. It's difficult to exist in almost any public area or drive anywhere without it being filmed, at least partially.

The public continues to be misled into believing that programs like the USA Freedom Act mean that their location data can't be obtained without a warrant.  The current position of the DoJ continues to be that the content of calls between US Citizens is afforded some 4th Amendment protections, but that the metadata about those calls is not.  Just because one specific bulk collection program ended, ALL other warrantless programs like Stingray continue on and have not been successfully challenged in court.
