Michigan Vacation/Staycation Spots?

Hi everyone!

I'm not from Michigan, it's merely where I settled after returning from Europe, and I'm thinking of taking a few weeks off this season for a little R&R.  But, I don't want to fall into the Tourist Trap elements that every state and locale always offer.

So, where's your favorite spot?  That little getaway where it's possible to unwind, relax and recharge your soul?

It is touristy up there, but in the off season, before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, it's pretty laid back and most of the tourists re away.

And if you're into looking at the stars, the dark sky park isn't very far either....

Man, Glen Arbor is closer to Wisconsin than Detroit. Looks pretty though.

True, everyone in and around metro Detroit should stay home  this summer!
