Went to TJ today (saturday) and was two blocks from Adelitas when I was stopped by two police officers in sweaters.   They asked for my ID.  I showed them my passport.  THey asked where I was going and I said to get something to eat.  They told me to spread eagle against the wall because they were going to search me for illegal drugs or prescription medication.   I had two 50 dollar bills in my front pocket and $200 dollars in my wallet.  They found the 50's first and to my amazement handed them to me. then they took out my wallet and without opening it, handed that to me.  They then went through my pockets somewhat half-heartedly without even checking my inside jacket pockets.  This is a good thing because I had one of those vibrators that goes around your cock and it would have been embarrassing to have them pull that out on a busy street corner.  Anyway i walk away with all my money and I over hear another guy telling his friend that he just got searched the same way.  I stopped to talk about it to him and he had the same experience.  I later see it happen to another guy but I don't talk to him about it.

I wonder what is going on all the sudden?  Anyway I thought I would give everyone the heads up.  I got lucky.  After going down there everyweekend for two years with no problems, I let my gaurd down and didn't hide my money before I crossed.  Luckily I didn't have any viagra or anything on me. The officer specifically asked me if I had any viagra or the like.  Anyways,  everything turned out fine and I had a great time with two great ladies.  Everyone be safe.

You can have it, but you still need your prescription on you for it. Still a no-no for purchasing it without a prescription.

The deal is........ You can legally carry ONE tablet of V,C or L on you in Mex. w/o perscription.

If the policia hassle you, tell them you know the law and if they still want to ROB you politely ask them to take you to see the Judge.

On a search always FIRST tell the Policia that you are going to take your money out of you pockets and wallet and hold it in your hand in plain sight. This tips them off to the fact that you know how to act in TJ on a shakedown. Take your time and get all of your money out and hold it in your hand.

IMHO horgoggie1 give some good advice.  However, I'm going to nitpick the part about being able to carry "one tablet...w/o perscription."  My response is: maybe.

Here's the deal as I understand it.  To buy meds you need an Rx from a Mexican physican.  A tourist, however, is legally allowed to bring necessary meds with him for his stay in Mexico.  This is vague and open to interpetation.  BP meds obviously are medically necessary, but cops can argue that V/C/L isn't. More importantly, unless you bring the pill bottle (with say one tablet) the cops can claim you bought your V/C/L in Mexico instead of bringing it from the US.  (Remember, under the Napalonic system you must prove you are innocent so "tie goes to the cops.")

I've posted on other boards where to find a Mexican physican who, for $30.00, will write you a Rx. IMHO this is the safest way to buy, carry, and use meds in Mexico.

I do very much agree that if hassled by the cops one should firmly but respectfully insist on being taken before the judge. Judges are on duty in TJ 24/7 and the cops must get an order from a judge before they can put you in jail.  Most of the time when the cops finally realize you are serious they will let you go as they lose too much time the could be making money by taking you before a judge.  (Of course, if you are a rude a**hole to the cops that changes everything.)

I've posted about this on other sites.

In the US a pharmacist must received a Rx to legally sell meds.  In Mexico they buyer must have a Rx.  (This was done because many people are too poor to see a doctor and in reality are being treated by pharmacists.  Mexico figures it is better for the poor to have some medical care than none.)

There is nothing the cops in TJ like better than catching a grino breaking the law "fair and square."  Since search and seizure powers are greater in Mexico than the US they can in many cases legally stop and search a person.

So don't carry drugs.  Don't carry Rx meds without a Rx from a Mexican doctor.  Especially in the Zona.

and it's good to have the info.  We owe ya.

Burt's right as always.

My Buddy and I were down there about a month ago and the same thing happened on Revo, one block from ZN.

They even searched my buddy's cell phone and the cell phone holster.

One cop was tall & thin and the other was short, they were in a police car and they pulled over to the curb, we were just walking quietly on the sidewalk.

I had breath mint strips in my shirt pocket and the cop got all excited when he saw the "bulge", he reached in and saw it was just mints.

They didn't take any money from us, but, hopefully, the TJ government would realize that searching tourists who spend money in their country from the U.S. for ten minutes and humiliating them in public is bad for the tourist business!

I took 3 years off from TJ, it's not the same for me anymore..I can stay and keep my yanqui gringo dollars on this side of the border...or Germany...or Thailand...etc...
