I remember a prior TER post speaking highly of La Mansion, so yesterday I went there.

The rooms and food at La Mansion were very nice, equal to if not better than those at Lucerna or Pueblo Amigo.  However, there were some things that I didn’t like about La Mansion policies.  I would like to know if these are new policies and if I’m the only one bothered by such practices.

--Rooms are $36.00, but there is no in/out privilege.
Rooms with in/out privileges cost $59.00.
--When checking in they asked for an ID.  They kept my ID until
I checked out, which was sometihng I really don’t like.
--Before giving me back my ID they sent somebody the check the
room. I presume that wanted to see I didn’t trash the place,
  steal towels, etc.
--Instead of leaving a mint on the pillow the maid puts condoms
on the night stand.  That’s not to my taste.
--When they called a cab, the driver wanted $10.00 to go
downtown.  The normal fee to downtown from that part of TJ is
$5.00. The cab driver said he had to pay a call out fee.
 Maybe, he’s  right.

Does anybody know:
(1) Are these the normal polices?
(2) How long have they had this policy of holding holding IDs?
I saw others IDs on the desk when checking out, so I think I was treated the same as the other guests.)

I’m not sure I want to return if this is the standard operating procedure.  I appreciate hearing about the experiences others have had at La Mansion, and your thoughts on these policies.

Hi Burt

Everything sounds about right with the exception of the cab driver. Next time he tells you 10 dollars tell him nicely 5 dollars then if he insists 10 dollars tell him to go fuck himself in those words and call for another cab or flag down a taxi libre or collectivo for 70 cents on the other side near the BMW dealership which is just a few seconds away.

A lot of my friends use this place and they rave about it.
This is not a place where families stay. This is a place where doctors and high class mexcians fuck there mistresses :)

How dare they leave a condom on the nightstand. Mexicans don't use condoms !

Burt did you hit mexicali yet ? If so how was it ?
My next trip will be sometime in Jan

take care

Hey Milkman,

Thanks for your previous post on Mexicali.  It was filled with great information!  Do you know how Califia Hotel is?  It is located at : 1495 Justo Sierra Drive.  (I'm not familar at all with Mexicali)  It says it's a 4 star hotel and located in the heart of the city.

Do you know if there is any action around there?  Or, will I have to travel far?  Do you know how the hotel staff would treat my "guest" (plural is better!!!!).

Thanks for any info...
