Is it now safe to go into the Zone Norte by cab to Adelitas or the Chicago Club?

I think its still normal standard.  Agree on price before you get in the cab. Off you go.  I was there 2 weeks ago.

Yes. Things have returned to normal.  Cops have resumed patrolling the Zona Norte and the rateros have pretty much moved on to greener pastures.

No (Gringo)mugging have been reported in the ZN the last couple of months.

More than likely as safe as it always has been when you travel to a complete hell hole.  If safety is your concern, I recommend hanging out in other places besides the absolute worst part of Tijuana that one can find.  Zona Norte is not exactly where the class acts gather around.

Kadjevic...while the Zona Norte isn't where the "class acts gather" it is where the "putas" gather.

I believe this man is going to Tijuana to have sex with "putas." So I fail to see why you "recommend hanging out in other places besides the absolute worst part of Tijuana that one can find."

Furthermore, the Zona Norte is far--very far--from being the "absolute worst part of Tijuana."  It's a place visited daily by hundreds (if not thousands) of Gringos who do without adverse incidents.

There's putas all around.  Not just in zona norte.  You can go to the mall and grab one of them.

And also, I don't care what the yankees do.  You all  love McDonalds and big trucks also, and I do neither of those activites.  So saying that thousands of "gringos"  (that's so gross by the way) visit a place means it's not a bad place is quite ridiculous if you ask me.  Gringo is a pretty derogatory term so I don't know why you call yourselves that.

I say at least go for a little upscale puta if it has to be that.  Never met someone who works in zona norte that isn't just an absolute slob or a drug addict.

"There's putas all around.  Not just in zona norte.  You can go to the mall and grab one of them."
Not true. Tijuana is not full of "putas." Nor can a man just go to a mall in TJ and pick up a girl.

----------

"Gringo is a pretty derogatory term."
Gringo is mainstream.  It's not "gross" to call an Americans a Gringo.

---------

"Never met someone who works in zona norte that isn't just an absolute slob or a drug addict."
Then you haven't met many ZN chicas. There are many who are hot--and are neither slobs nor drug addicts.

----------

"I don't care what the yankees do.  You all  love McDonalds and big trucks also, and I do neither of those activites."
Somebody has a chip on his shoulder!

You sound like a European putting on airs to mask an inferiority complex.  Most of the world loves American culture and food, including McDonalds.

Anti-Americanism may be chic in some places, like Europe. But it results from jealousy in places that are "has beens" and "also rans" that can't keep up with America.

Face it mate:  It's America that has given the modern world democracy, airplanes, cars, movies, television, computers, the Internet, etc. etc. etc.  Not Europe, Australia, etc.

It's American science, technology, culture, etc. that leads the world.  Until the "has beens" and "also rans" (like Europe, Australia, etc.) can  do something really momentous--like put a man  on the Moon--they ought to keep their mouths shut.  Because all their "huffing and puffing" is nothing more than sour grapes.

Umm... I've been here for quite many years and gotten quite a few dates at the mall.  You might have a hard time picking up women, but some of us don't find it that difficult especially in a place with so many.

Gringo is only mainstream if you have a really tacky language style.  It's a derogatory term and it's not appropriate at all to say this in public or in business.  I speak Spanish most of the day when I'm working (only reason I live in this hell hole) and I can tell you 100% that the word "gringo" is NOT acceptable language.

I think I know too many girls that work in the zona norte.  You're a tourist.  You don't see what I see.  I've seen how they live, how they eat, how they manage themselves health wise and what they spend money on.  99% are slobs or drug addicts.  Bottomline.  Some guys are oblivious obviously because men will send them thousands thinking that a woman is "faithful" to them when she's speaking to him on the phone 5 ft away from me.

Most of the world loves America?  You're kidding right?

Wow...I am pretty suprised by the bitterness of the commentary you gave, Kadjevic.  I lived in Mexico for some time, and found most mexicans to be really good people.  Even the professionals often went about their day with some level of dignity and honor...

I would suggest that for the most part, Americans are well liked in most quarters of the world...the government's popularity is a different matter.

Your comments are not helpful to the average reader, and are more about you than the experience most people have.

You might be right.  I don't go to the zona norte in my free time and I try and stay away from scumbag women, both professional and civilian alike.  Finding a date is not a problem and paying is good because it excuses you from any responsibility of returning phone calls or having someone ask you anything about your personal life that you're expected to answer.

You're comparing "most mexicans" to prostitutes in Tijuana.  That's a stretch, at best.  Additionally, people with honor and dignity generally don't use trashy terms such as "gringo".  Extremely tacky and most people that use that term and deem it acceptable probably never got beyond a middle school education.

Americans are not "generally liked" in the world.  That's like saying that arabs are generally liked in the U.S.  I've been in the United States and anyone that wears anything on their head besides a baseball cap gets stares from people especially in airports.  That's the way that many people around the world look at Americans.  Might not be conscious hatred, but it's certainly a disadvantage and very different from Burt's imaginary world of 1950's anti-communist movement where America is the heart of the world.

I think my comments are very helpful.  Who better to comment on a city than someone who has been there for what seems like forever and is extremely familiar with legalities, geography, and demographics?  My English is better than most Americans and my Spanish is better than most Mexicans.  I also speak two additional languages on top of that.  That's why I work here, because I know what I'm doing and I know the people.  Trust me, I wish I didn't, but given the facts the way they are, I'd like to know who you have in mind to be a better authority on the subject than someone in my position.  Someone who lives in California and comes around with his fanny pack and khaki shorts?  Please, darling.

Like I said above, the eyes of a tourist and the eyes of a resident provide two different views.  Put a transcontinental business perception on it and then you get a real difference.  Saying I'm wrong is pretty out there.

I have a home in Tijuana.  For ten years I've lived full-time or part-time in Tijuana.  I speak fluent Spanish and have a great many local friends.

If you think 99% of the chicas in the ZN are "slobs or drug addicts" you obviously know very little about the Zona Norte.  If you think guys can just go to the malls and pickup a girl you obviously know very little about Tijuana.

If you speak Spanish and really do live in Tijuana than you should know that "Gringo" is commonly used by locals to mean a non-Hispanic without a pejorative intent.

"I don't go to the zona norte in my free time..."
The truth comes out.

Based on your assertion that 99% of the chicas in the ZN are "slobs or drug addicts" it was obviously form the start that you don't know much about the Zona Norte.  The same with your claim that the ZN is the worst/most dangerous part of Tijuana.

I, too, have dated locals.  Lots of locals. (I nearly married one, but that's another story.)

To think that a guy can go to a TJ mall and expect to leave with a chica is absurd. I have no doubt that upon rare occasions a guy has hooked up with a chica at a mall.  But that's very, very different than telling guys looking for sex (especially guys who don't speak Spanish)that instead of going to the ZN they should go to a mall and pickup a chica.  That's not the way things work in TJ.

You're taking that since I don't spend my free time in Zona Norte that I don't know anything about it.  That's a big leap and a ridiculous assumption.  That's right up there with your "the world loves America" idea.  Very interesting logic.

Zona Norte is one of the worst places in the city I have seen in regards to any type of safety, cleanliness, etc.

If someone is looking for sex, then Zona Norte is a good bet.  However, the question was is it safe, and I'd say no, it's not, and should be avoided if you can.  With so many options, it can.  I wouldn't say you can go to the mall and "expect" to leave with someone, but you can get a date in many places in the city without going to the absolute hell hole.

If you live in Tijuana and think the Zona Norte is a clean and safe place, that would make me wonder where on Earth you're accustomed to living.
