Hey guys,

So I'm planning on going down to TJ in the near future (quite possibly the "fiesta" that MexicoLindoBar is throwing on the 21st) and had some questions about crossing and stuff because I have never been down there for sexual adventures or just traveling in general.

Where do you dudes normally park if you plan on walking across? Las Americas? or do you guys park in the "all day" parking areas that charge 5-15 dollars? Or are there free places that are close? I plan to stay overnight so let me know if that changes the parking situation (what places are safe to park overnight, what places charge overnight, etc).

and because I'm not an American citizen but am a resident alien, I would assume that I just need my greencard and my passport to cross back into the US right?

You don't want to park at Los Americas(your car will be towed) or any free lots(your car will be stolen or broken into), but do park in a secure pay lot.

Sure your greencard and passport will get you back in.  

There are several secure lots and I have no strong feelings about which one is "better" but maybe someone does in this community.

I would take your vehicle if it's a choice between parking in San Ysidro (yuck!) or driving.  If you do decide to park your vehicle in California, I would recommend parking in some place slightly further north and then taking public transportation to the crossing area.  There is some type of bus that connects with the crossing area for pedestrians if I'm correct, or you can take a taxi on the motorway.

I don't have much experience with public transportation in the city of Tijuana, but I have had to take a taxi a few times over the years and it was not a pleasant experience.  The taxis are usually very dirty (you get your hand dirty touching the seat or opening the door) and the music selection is somewhat depressing as well.  However, if you are hungry, I have seen potato chip crumbs in the seats and floorboards on numerous occasions, so you know at least if something does happen, you won't go hungry.

Contract out one of those compact limousine services.  Not the ridiculous kind the kids around here use for their birthday festivals, but the kind the business people use.  You'll have much better results than public transportation, in my opinion.  I can't imagine it costing entirely too much.  You usually get some type of Lincoln or perhaps a Mercedes.  Might be a few years old, but it's much better than some beat up bus or a dusty taxi with food crumbs on the floor.

What ever you do, do NOT park in one of the shopping mall lots--Las Americans, K-Mart, etc.--as your car will be towed.  There is (sometimes) free parking that can be found on the public streets, but I recommend against using it.  

I once had a car stolen that was parked on a US street near the border, but I've never had a problem using a paid lot with a 24-hour attendant.  I'd advise against parking further north and taking the trolley to the border as your car is much safer using a lot near the border with a 24-hour attendant than it is being left in an unattended park and ride lot.

Use one of the pay lots; one with a 24-hour attendant.  Some lots charge in 8-hour increments, some (such as Border Station) "re-up" at 10am, some (such as UTEP) give a true 24-hour rate (for around $9.00).  Since you're planning on staying over night I think the UTEP parking lot next to the Duty Free store would be the best lot to use.

I don't recommend "newbies" drive in Tijuana.  You're better off learning your way around TJ before you start driving in Tijuana.  The return trip by car is often an hour (make that 2 hours on a Saturday)  compared to the much shorter time pedestrians spend crossing the border.  There is a shortage of street parking in TJ, plus it's much safer to use a paid TJ lot (which often charge more than US lots).  Driving in TJ is very different than driving in the US (in the beginning it frightens most people) and driving at night when the cops and drunks are active is never fun.

I recommend doing what most people who are going to attend the fiesta do:  take a taxi.  It's $5.00 each way.  (Mexico is a third world country.  If you're the type that's going to "freak out" because Tijuana taxis are "too dirty" then you really shouldn't be in Mexico.  Also, for what it's worth, in my experiences taxis in the US are just as dirty--and clean--as those in TJ.)

Be sure you bring the necessary documentation--green card, passport, etc.--to return to the U.S.  With you "paperwork" in order you won't have any problems.

Be sure to say "Hi" at the fiesta!  (I'm a fairly well known "commodity," so if you ask around you'll find me.)

I went this past weekend for my first TJ experience.  

I parked at the lot across the street from Jack in the Box on the US side, a recommendation from Dennis at MexicoLindoBar.com (bonitachika is his username on here).  He gave me good directions and it's real close to where you cross.  I think it was $5 for every 8 hours.  It seemed pretty safe and I had no problems.

I took 3 or 4 taxis during my visit.  All were fine.  All the drivers in TJ were a little crazy, but no better or worse than taxis in any other major city, well maybe a little dirtier, but not as bad as some say.  Before you leave with them ask them how much it is so there is no surprise at the end of the trip.  All of the trips I took were $4-5.  

You could consider taking the trolley down from San Diego.  It drops you off right by the border crossing too.  But you should do some research.  I don't know how long the trip takes or how expensive it is. I am sure it's less than parking there and at least you know your car is safe and sound.

I tried 2 agencies while I was there.  My best advice for you is to have a backup plan if you are using an agency and you are picking a girl ahead of time.  Inevitably something will happen to the girl you picked, she will have some sort of "emergency".  She'll get in accident on the way to see you or get her period or something else (probably excuses because I have seen other people's reviews where the girls have had the same "emergencies").  This happened to the girls I picked from both agencies on the same day!

My first MexicoLindoBar girl had an "emergency" (got her period). The replacement girl wasn't as hot as the girl I first picked, but she more than made up for it with enthusiasm and fun. My first CuminTJ girl had an "emergency"(got her period too), then her replacement had an "emergency" too (got pulled over with no insurance). Mundo from CuminTJ, was apologetic and gave me a discount but the last replacement girl he sent (Harriet) was fucking awful, a dead fish.

I should have picked a few backup girls and read their reviews before I went down, and if they weren't available, I should have just cut my losses, but what did I know?

The parking lot near Jack 'n the Box (like the Gateway parking lot) charges $5.00 per 8 hours which is $15.00 for 24 hours.  I recommend the monger who was planning on staying over night use the UTEP lot which charges $9.00 for 24 hours as it usually ends up costing less for those staying overnigh.  Both are safe lots.

So just so I'm correct here, if I don't like the taxis in Tijuana, I should send in my resignation and leave Mexico?  This about like how prostitution is fully legal according to your "lawyer buddy" even though articles 266 and 268 of the penal code say it's not?  I'm glad you're not a paid consultant.  You'd go down in flames rather quickly.

I don't see an issue with driving in Tijuana.  The traffic plan is rather terrible, but you act as if traveling to some destination requires some sort of status or experience level.  I see your refer to people as "newbies" or "vets".  Quite ridiculous, if you ask me.  This isn't Special Air Services training or the French Foreign Legion for Christ's sake, it's a tourist town.  It's Mexico, not Cambodia.  Much ado about nothing.

If it makes you feel better to refer to people as "newbies" or "vets" or whatever silly names you come up with, then I think people should take it the same as they take your legal advice - as a comment in passing and nothing more.  Just some old murmurings that really have no substance.

You need to stop asking cops for legal advice.  According to Mexican attorneys I know--including "my friend" as you call him who is a former Mexican federal prosecutor--prostitution per se is legal in Tijauna. ( BTW, go re-read your articles 266 and 268 as you obviously don't understand them.)  Certain activies related to prostitution--such as solicitation in public--are illegal, but the actual act of prostitution performed between sober, legally consententing adults in private in Tijuana is legal.  (I pity people who pay you for advice as they're obviously getting not getting what they pay for as witness the fact you don't think people should take lemos instead of taxis and are misinformed about the prostitution law in Tijuana.)

Again with the anonymous sources to back up your arguments.  "Burt, you're mistaken." "No, I'm not, my friend used to be so-and-so and he says I'm right."  Pretty weak there, mate. I don't need to ask police for advice, the laws are in the penal code.  And no, I don't need to "re-read" it.  It's pretty specific.  Prostitution is not legal at all.

You might be trying to split hairs and say that it's not illegal per the city ordinances, but that's like saying that "murder is not illegal in Tijuana; it's illegal in the State of Baja California".  But that would be splitting hairs since the State law trumps the city code, which means you could get arrested anyways.  Let's also remember that the promotion of prostitution, either on the net or in person, and the participation in it, is also illegal under the Federal Penal Code which I'm looking at right now in Article 200.  I can be about 90% sure that your lawyer buddy "ex-federal prosecutor" either does not exist, or he lies terribly and you believe him.  Either one would make sense to me.

Again, your legal advice is going to get people into trouble, they're going to look around for your ex-fed lawyer buddy, and every single attorney is going to tell them what I've told you, which is only what's written in the penal code.  Nothing else matters except what's written there.  The, "This guy on the internet named Burt has a friend who is a lawyer and HE said it's not illegal!" defense will not hold. I can see the judge now...

It doesn't surprise me you think France is full of snobs.  I would imagine that any developed nation would not like your style of breast-grabbing and other obnoxious behavior.  I can imagine that in third-world nations, the poor and down-trodden must grovel at your feet in hopes of a few dollars.  But in any developed nation or city such as Sydney, Paris, London, etc. they see you just as another yankee tourist with a bad attitude and a hatred for the rest of the world who doesn't bow down to your American passport.  This might be why you prefer to hang out in the gutter and frequent women who come from the gutter - they're the only ones who will put up with your nonsense.  Anyone with a brain, however, can see right through it, just as I have.  I'm just glad that you stay in that gutter and society in this city has not yet allowed you to co-exist with the normal people.  Even if they did, you going around talking about "people you know" and "prostitution is legal" would get you laughed out of there anyways.

I've cited the penal code here numerous times.  That stands on its own.  Unless you can explain to me your rationale on how something written in the penal code is cited as illegal, yet you say it is in fact legal, then there's no reason to believe you.  I want to see something in writing to refute what's in the penal code.  Until I see it, then people really should take what you say with a grain of salt.

The penal code you've "cited many times" does NOT say prostitution per se is illegal.  What it says is certain acts related to prostitution are illegal.

For example:  Pimping and pandering is illegal.  Having sex with a minor is illegal.  Contracting for sex with somebody who's drunk is illegal.  Solicitation in public is illegal.  Working without a health is illegal.  ssEtc. Etc. Etc.

What the statues don't say is that prostitution between sober, consenting adults is illegal.

I don't know how much more clear you want it.  And a legal opinion becomes hearsay when it comes from a third party.  You saying "I know someone who is a lawyer" is hearsay since it's not coming from the lawyer, it's coming from you.  We're supposed to just believe you instead of being able to hear something from the source.  That is what hearsay is.

What I posted is part of the written penal code from the state, and the code is almost identical in the federal penal code.  So again, Burt, in case you didn't catch it the first time, unless you have something in WRITING to say that prostitution is legal, I think everyone knows that the law as it's written is contradicting you here.
