You should have no problem.  People that go regularly find it safe...people that have not been talk about how dangerous it is.

Interesting that my answer seems to be 6 hours before your question. :)

I think you will be okay.  I usually go in the afternoon and start to leave by 7 or 8pm.  Most of my friends do the same.  Stay sober and be smart.  I would stay at Adelitas, Honk Kong and even Chicagos and you should be good to go.  Let us know how it goes.  Most of my friends have not had any problems but they do not stay late.

It's safe to go to Tijuana alone.  Very safe.

Observe basic precautions like staying out of dark alleys and taking a cab to/from the border (instead of walking) when it's dark and you'll be fine.

----------

I once did a little research project on bar shootings.  Over a five year period there were 3 times as many bar  shooting in San Diego as in Tijuana.  (The cities are the same size in terms of population, but Tijuana has gun control laws.)  Guess which shootings made a big splash in the media.  You guessed it:  when something happens in TJ it's on the front page, but when it happens in SD it's buried in the back pages.  So don't form your opinion of what's happening based on media coverage.
