Headed to Tijuana on Thursday for mongering (7/21)...

Finally able to arrange a short trip to TJ this coming Thursday - Saturday, though it's a little last minute. Plan is to drive down from LA, park at the border, walk across, then stay at Hotel Cascadas.

Never been to TJ, but have traveled to other parts of MX and backpacked throughout South America (Ecuador, Peru, others), so mi Espanol is pretty decent and I'm decently travel savvy. First international trip dedicated to mongering.

Would CONSIDER giving other non-weirdo mongers a ride down and/or ride up as long as it fits my schedule. Y'all can chip in for gas and parking fees or something. We can break off and do our own thing once we're there or do some of it together, no importa. Let me know.

Actual questions:

(1) Does anyone have a Bank of America account and has successfully used the Santander ATMs throughout TJ without accruing fees? Seems like the best option as I'd rather not carry tons of cash with me otherwise and the exchange rate for pesos is pretty fair there seemingly. Or other thoughts on how to safely carry cash in TJ?

(2) From what I gather, pesos are the best payment method for most mongering purposes, though not all (better rates at HK with US dollars)? Is this true? Plan to carry some of both.

(3) Most secure + cheapest parking structures/lots at the border? Seems like a lot of them are around $20-$25/day ATM.

(4) Anyone actually stay at Hotel Cascadas -> what about your valuables like a laptop or your passport, did you feel safe leaving it in your room unattended, do they have a safe (doubtful), can you leave things with the front desk/is that legit, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Man, you're going to love TJ.  It's truly an adult paradise.  But unfortunately, you won't find much advice here.  This board is pretty dead.  Try googling TJAmigos (I can't actually list the site here).  That site is the ultimate resource for all things TJ.  I know for a fact each one of your questions have been discussed in detail.

Thanks man! Heard of that site, guess I'll quickly look at it before leaving bright and early tmrw. Found most of my answers on other forums (ISG, etc) so I feel I'm good to go. Have a room at Hotel Rizo de Oro (seems like it has all the benefits of Hotel Cascadas in being able to take HK girls there, but it's cheaper, quieter, and the VIP discount still applies), have a lovely date scheduled with a lady from CUMINTJ right when I check in, then it's off to the races, haha.

Hopefully I'll see you there next time!

Ok, I'll give you the quick answers to save you some time:

1.  I don't use BOA, so I can't help here.

2.  Carry both currencies, but you will almost always save money with the girls by paying in pesos.  The exchange rate sat at 10:1 for so long that most of the girls have those numbers memorized, and even though the rate is now north of 18:1, many still use their 10:1 rates.  For example, many girls will ask for $80 or 800 pesos.  Well, at 18:1, 800 pesos equals about $45, so you would save a bunch by using pesos.

3.  The parking situation in San Ysidro is a little interesting right now as they open their new pedestrian crossing.  Also, I've only spent the night once, so parking security isn't too important to me.  I like to make quick trips, so I typically park along a street that is free.  However, there are plenty of lots right at the boarder.  A lot of them are reviewed on Yelp, with reviewers mentioning how secure they felt leaving their cars overnight.

4.  I've rented countless rooms at Cascadas and I would highly recommend not leaving valuables in your room.  Just assume it won't be there when you return. It's safe to assume the worst.   If you want a more secure room, here are other options just outside of the red light district.  Hotel Ticuan is a short walk to the bars and is much, much more secure.  But, it's all a trade off.  Do you want more security, or the convenience of bringing any girl to want  back to your room at no extra charge?

One final tip:  always negotiate upfront, make it very clear what you expect, and always pay after the deed is complete (this isn't the US).  If you don't negotiate upfront, you run the risk of the girl asking for a ridiculous price and running to the cops if you don't pay up.  If you have a clear price set beforehand, she has no argument.  If you don't make it very clear what you want (i.e., I want oral without a condom, I want to eat you out, unlimited positions, etc), many girls will perform the bare minimum.  It's okay to be explicit; trust me, the girls have heard it all, and more importantly, prostituion is legal, so it's okay!  And finally pay afterwards because, again,  some girls will take the money and perform the bare minimum, if anything at all.  Remember, a band that's paid beforehand will play like shit.  Mentioning there may be a tip for her at the end if all goes tends to work pretty well for me.  (Of course actually tip them if they deserve it).

You're going to have so much fun.  Just be careful, TJ may ruin hobbying stateside for you.

Hey, super helpful tips. thanks!

Am bringing both currencies, but primarily pesos for exactly the reason you stated.

You mention not leaving valuables in the room (totally understandable), but how about leaving it in the in-room safe? that's gotta be secure right? definitely don't think you are bringing all your cash and passport with you on your person otherwise...

thanks for tip about making it clear what I want (hadn't thought of that), and to pay AFTER + the incentive of a tip.

I keep my passports and money on my person at all times.  I've never left it in a safe, so I really don't know how secure they are.

Anyone have intel on a local dude named Mario? Just had some questions, thanks! Seems like a nice guy, just want to make sure he's ok..

I know several Mario's.  As a general rule of thumb, if he speaks English he has no good intentions.

Did not get anything.  Do you have VIP Status?  Might have not been sent out.

I don't know him, but it's safe to say you're better off not trusting him.

The PM I sent, yes I have VIp: Ok, sounds like the guy (no good intentions). Friendly dude, met him through some random strangers.

I think he used to be a mesero or other kind of worker at HK, he seemingly knows everybody at all the different bars. Got me discounts at the bars among other things. He spends a lot of time at the casinos on Avenida Revolucion. Also a drug dealer as he just gave me some weed (that I got rid of) cause "nosotros somos amigos" and then invited me to do a line of coke with him in a bathroom stall in a bar with the bathroom attendant that I politely but firmly refused.

Seems friendly but er...mad sketch? I'm pretty travel savvy and can speak good Spanish, but yeah, going to stay away from him.

-----------

On a different note, just had my first threesome with three Rubio HK BGs. La vida es buena. Thanks all

Avoid that guy like the plague.  Hisnintemtions are not good.  Standby for a set up.  Also, you can be guilty by association in Mexico, so the next time a cop finds some coke in his pocket while you two are walking down the alley, both of you will be hauled to jail.

The days of being able to use a Bank of America ATM card at Santander, Banco Socia, etc. ended some years ago.  You'll get a better rate than at a regular ATM,  but you will pay fees.  (The ATM inside San Borns at 8th and Revolucion has the lowest fees in downtown TJ.)

If you have Wells Fargo you can send money to yourself for at Bancomer for $5.00.

Wear a pocket T-shirt inside out and carry money, ID, etc. in it.  Very safe and you can even wear it during a session.

(2) From what I gather, pesos are the best payment method for most mongering purposes, though not all (better rates at HK with US dollars)? Is this true? Plan to carry some of both.

Carry both as there are times one gets you a better deal.  However, be warned Escort Agencies deal in dollars.
 ----------------------
(3) Most secure + cheapest parking structures/lots at the border? Seems like a lot of them are around $20-$25/day ATM.

UTEP.  However, it's 30 pesos (about USD 1.70) per 24 hours during the week and about 80 pesos on Friday and Saturday at the Ticun Hotel lot that is open to the public.  It's in a safe area and your car will be as safe or safer there than in a border lot in the US (where I had one car stolen and another broken into).
---------------------
(4) Anyone actually stay at Hotel Cascadas -> what about your valuables like a laptop or your passport, did you feel safe leaving it in your room unattended, do they have a safe (doubtful), can you leave things with the front desk/is that legit, etc.

Cascadas is probably the best hotel in the ZN, but that isn't saying much.  I'd rather stay at the Ticun and walk or cab to the Zona.  Valuables can be safely stored at the Ticuan (located on 8th between Revolucion and Constitution).
