Late morning on a weekday *shouldn't* be too bad, but as always in TJ, you never know.  It could end up being thoroughly horrible for no apparent reason.

Took me about an hour at 10am last Friday....the line was real long but moved pretty fast.

The wait will probably be one to two hours.

Waits vary considerably without any predictible pattern.  Sundays and Fridays are typically worse than other days as in addition to tourists returing to the US many Mexicans go north on Fridays and Mexican-Americans visiting family in TJ return to the US on Sundays.

You just need your California ID, no passport is needed until next year.

Last Sunday at 7 pm it took less than 10 minutes, as there was no line.

As mickeyguts said, no passport is required.  I did cross at Otay last football season with some friends about 3 times.  It seemed a little easier going thru using a passport than just a DL. Not really that much of a difference but a little.  It just seemed my passport had the all the info he wanted and the agent didn't type anything in.

Current statement from the US State Department is that for land travel between US and Mexico, a passport will not be required until January 1, 2008, at the earliest.  This date may be extended again.
A valid government-issued ID is all that is required for US citizens at this time.

The SENTRI line is getting longer and longer.  I'm consistently waiting more than 10 minutes every single time, which is crazy.  Hopefully it's the summer time and people are doing back to school shopping and that's what it is.

Before, the max wait was 15 minutes and 80% of the time there was no wait.  You just went right through.  Now the line is backing up to hell and back.

I hope they up the compliance checks and start pulling more SENTRI passes to lighten the load.

I can remember as a teenager, that 10 minutes was a very long wait at 2am.
