are unpredictable, but I've found:
1- weekends busy during daylight
2- tourists are gone by 8pm with their pinatas
3- pretty easy from 9 till 11
4- diners head home at 11
5- clubbers ARRIVE at midnite (you'll see packs of kids heading down when you're going back to your car

I've never seen a line going down.
My best luck returning is 8-11pm on weeknights, probably 15 minutes.  Worst has been Saturday afternoon, 2 hours in the sun.  Weekend nights, more diners and tourists, so maybe 9-11.

YMMV.

Greetings All,

So here's what I am assuming as a complete newbie:

-Crossing from SD over to TJ on any day at any hour is pretty much cake.  No crowds, no lines, just walk to cross.

-When crossing from TJ over to SD: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are naturally the busiest days of the week.

Please correct me if my assumptions are wrong.  I would also love to draw from your collective knowledge regarding what days of the week and what windows of time are busiest or slowest for border crossing from TJ to SD.

Thanks very much in advance!

NEVER assume anything when going into TJ or coming back.

I've asked the border agents and they keep telling me the same thing, you just can't predict when it's going to be slow and when it's going to be busy. There are times when there have been man hunts and the border crossing into Mexico was to a crawl. I've also thought it was going to be busy coming back to the US and breezed through the check point.

I'd have to say that the biggest mistake is to assume ANYTHING when it comes to Mexico.
Of course, a good bet is that from around 5 am to 9-10 am is the busiest during the week. Sundays are just going to be busy all day.
And it depends if you're walking or driving. I've seen many long lines when driving but not when you're walking and vice versa.

The Otay Mesa crossing can be a bit lighter at times if you've got a car.
BUT remember if you drive in Mexico, basic liabilty is mandatory. You get into an accident and don't have insurance, you'll go to jail. That is one action in Mexico you can be correct to assume will happen.
