Just expect a nice cocktail type party with people who are like minded.

 
Don't eat or drink too much if you plan to have a session right after.

I was wondering if I should mention I will be attending the event before our appointment. Who knows maybe she would go? That would actually be a cool experience.  
Do some hobbyists try to book with some providers after meeting at the event?

Does anyone have anything to add on VIP after parties - what to expect and all?

Very often the planners of the event will post a list of those providers attending.  It's easy to reach out to the participants and make plans for post party fun.  I think the ladies attending would much rather have plans ahead of time rather than being asked at the MnG event itself.

1)  If you are an M&G newbie, make sure to secure your invite at least at week in advance.  The hosts/hostesses will be screening, so best to get that out of the way ASAP.

2) Unless otherwise noted, M&G's are cocktail parties.  Approach them as such.  Some are held in private venues, others public.  You should be able to discern which based on what the hosts/hostesses tell you once you have passed screening.  Act accordingly.  YMMV always applies.

3) Regarding afterparty fun, best to arrange things beforehand with a provider you know is attending.  It's possible you may be able to arrange things at the party, but this is hit or miss, even if you know some of the ladies attending.  Book a hotel room for yourself if possible/feasible if you are planning to do that, and take the next day off if possible from work.  Limit your consumption of drinks.

These are not hard and fast rules, just common sense that applies in most situations.
