Hi Everyone,

I'm Nooner from Connecticut.

Just taking a POLL for now.....

Who might be interested in the following???

I welcome expressions of interest, those who might 'definitely' come, recommendations on changes to what I have suggested, complaints on what I have to say, help in planning a better party, etc.

As some of you read, I'm the one sponsoring the cocktail party and dinner for a handful of us next weekend.

Should be fun... our little confirmed group is excited ... Woot! :-)

I'm thinking ahead to the next month of February and thought it might be fun to....

(here's where I need feedback on whether there is interest .. or not .. or, if so, what needs to be sponsored to have many of your come!):

Date: Tuesday, Feb 14 -- Valentine's Day Evening Mixer!!

Time: 6 pm to 9 pm (or 7 pm to 10 pm ... or whatever is suggested and liked the best!)

P.S. And if it goes over for a few of us by a couple hours or more, terrific!

Location: A very upscale suite near Norwich Connecticut The party will be held in a private suite at a major hotel in the area. The exact location of the event, and suite number, etc, will be given out the night before the event by email.

Activities: Open Bar Cocktails for 3 hours ... Light Bites to Eat... And anything your imaginations might take you that we all understand and accept!

(I priced out the open bar... food additions add to the Hobbyists' donation.. or might be at my treat depending on numbers of peeps...

Admission Fee:
1. Ladies fly free!
2. Hobbyists may be asked to bring a $70 or so donation to offset the cost of an Open Bar for us and the ladiesl, And as a small price to pay to enjoy the companionship over cocktails of so many sexy gals!

(Here's a prime example of where I need feedback.... Is this cost affordable to the gents? I'm anticipating a higher bill, and will be glad to foot it, but I'd like it to be fair to me and affordable to ya'll.)

(Another possibility is, instead of commiting to an Open Bar, is to have a Butler/Bartender there to doll out consumption on a per drink basis.) Either way, I'd like a donation from the guys of something or other. I'm only generous to a degree... lol. What's do-able from your angle?

Party Numbers:
- The suite I reserved can comfortably accomodate 40.
- I can size it down to 12 to 16 and get a smaller suite, or keep the larger suite so we have plenty of room for whatever unwinds. Or, size it down to a smaller suite comfortable for 14 or us or less.
- Even if only 10 of us came, I think a gathering of 5 to 6 Hobbyists... and 5 to 6 Providers.. would be great fun.
- Ideally, I personally would like to see if we can approve roughly the same number or Providers who will be coming to the same number of Hobbyists, but... Your thoughts,, please?... I've never been to one of TER M&Gs, so I have no idea if a 50/50 split is the norm or not. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Anyone who has experience in sponsoring parties, and would like to give this Newbie (me!) an assist, is greatly appreciated as well.

Outside New England Invitees who don't hear about this from this thread or thru friends:
If I get a preliminary expression of Connecticut-Rhode Island-Massachusetts-Northern New Englanders here, I will also write the handful of touring gals into New England that I've met in my short life as a Hobbyist to garner their interest in coming to event too. You guys/gals are welcome to do the same!

In Summary:
So, there ya go.... Any interest in something like this?...

Feel free to respond to the thread or sending a private message.

All the best,

Nooner

I'm known to travel to New England for a mixer or M&G and I'm looking forward to visiting again soon. But man oh man, that's a tough day to get an excused absence from the homestead.

Just my $.02

From bitter personal experience, Valentine's Day parties are TOUGH !
First , a LOT of people have trouble getting away for it and have other plans.
A lot of people go away and/or their kids have Mid-Winter Break.
It is pretty soon after Christmas , Jan. 15, the Super Bowl, AVN in Vegas etc. and too many people are tapped out.
Lastly, you have the weather to deal with.
These are just some things to think about. If you are going to do it, you might be best off with a small gathering in a small suite.

Belated thanks for these great thoughts, vadhaman.
I read this last week... but wanted to see how my first mini-personal-Meet & Greet went last night (Satruday).

I hosted a cocktail, dinner and provided concert tics for a date and another couiple at one of our casinos.

We had an absolute blast as the par-tay continued well after the concert ended, but I was surprised at my first stab at inviting others to a little shindig like this was, due to very few people contacting me on what I thought was a great offer (i.e. everything was on me except for the donation a hobbyist would make for a provider date). But, maybe I should be glad that we had the most fantastic time with just a handful of us and my wallet wasn't as depleted as it could have been.. lol.

So..... I'm guessing.... based on my fledging new experience in trying to host something... and based on your great feedback.... that this Valentine's Day cocktail party will just amount to something very, very small. And nothing like I imagined when the idea popped into my pea brain head.. lol. Your point was excellent by this being a tough night for hobbyists to get away from home. Never gave that thought since I can slip away easily with advance preparation. Easier for providers to attend nighttime party events, I guess, since perhaps half of all providers seem to not have or want to bother with a SO while in the industry. Can't blame them... I'd like to be solo now too. LOL.

Hey, thanks again for the great feedback! Will probably only plan now on having 4 or 5 providers and hopefully as many hobbyists for a small little drink-em-up that night or or another night that week.
