Do Massage Providers Consider Themselves "Sex Workers"?

On a massage board, I once posted a comment that sensual massage providers were sex workers.  Well, I got a boatload of greif from others that "no" sensual massage providers were not sex workers because many of them actually do provide a good massage.

So, I'm wondering what the sensual massage providers consider themselves.  After all, paying for a massage and hand job isn't that far from paying for other forms of sex.

Why do you care what they consider themselves and how does that affect you in anyway??  What makes you think they all give "hand jobs?" Experiences vary from person to person and when you post foolishness like this you will indeed get a "boatload of grief"  Why would you be going to massage boards using terms like "sex worker" anyways?! Why are you even making an issue of it?!  Why don't you just go get a massage and stop trying to analyze every aspect of it!   whywhywhy!

Actually, no it did not hit a nerve but I find it interesting that one
would come on a sex discussion board to inquire whether or not some
thing is illegal.  What does this person care what anyone here thinks of
themselves or how they might be clarified?! The fact of the matter is, I
happen to know who this person is and that they are infamous for trying to
stir the pot...just as a few others here are...but nice try ;)

Highly unlikely that you know who I am, as this is my first post on here of any kind (I think).  I can't imagine what pot you might think I'm stirring.

His question seems legit to me.  It appears to be a reasonable question for a massage board, and even if you are not interested in the question or answer, why the tone of annoyance.  The question doesn't hurt anybody, it doesn't threaten to out or damage anybody, and I cannot imagine how it should bother you, and yet it does AND you confront the Original Poster.  Really not sure why you can't just let the curious OP ask his question.

The Captain Has Opined

none of the ladies on TER are sex workers. This whole site is a place where people share fantasies. Where did you get the idea that you'll get sex workers here :)

In most every state providing sexually oriented extras with a massage is very much the same as "sex work" a.k.a. prostitution,  yes this includes if you DIY the ending too.
Personally I don't see my fictional fantasy character people write about here as any different than an escort & don't mind one bit. Xoxo. V.

As MsDynamite says, the law is the law.  But if a person doesn't like the label "Sex Worker," so be it.  Isn't the bottom line whether they provide the service they advertise?

I've met "Custodial Engineers" who cleaned bathrooms.  Apparently they didn't like the term "janitor."  That's OK by me as long as the bathroom gets cleaned.

Not all massage providers offer sex.  Sensual bodywork can be just that.  There's a difference between an escort and a sensual bodyworker and it's not as simple as what a label may imply.  Rather than asking general questions perhaps it's best to get to know each provider and understand what SHE does.  The masses cannot define people and should not make general assumptions.

One can define themselves how they want but  by definition if you're taking cash for it you are sex worker because it is sexually oriented. Sugar coating it does not work when faced with criminal charges, however tantra is considered a legitimate & taxable practice but a true tantric practitioner isn't exactly selling sex.
Most of the tantra people I know won't have full on sex.
I was meaning if LE were to come in an indys incall or raid an MP,  they do get arrested for it. They consider massage gals prostitutes a.k.a. Sex workers.

All very interesting and excellent insight from the ladies. Thanks

Jack

I think that some ladies think they are "above" the terms like provider/prostitute/ho/hooker/sex-worker/etc because they don't consider a HJ sex. If you are truly offering a massage without touching the certain anatomical parts described in massage practice as unlawful to touch then you are most definitely not a sex worker. However, if you, as common practice, touch those certain anatomical areas in your massage for a fee greater than that of a massage where those areas are NOT touched, then I personally put that into the sex worker category. This is a subject were you will find there are lots of differing opinions. This is just mine. Thanks, .02

To those of you who answered, I appreciate the input.  I've seen several different independent sensual massage providers and have developed a nice relationship with several, verging on personal, although I don't try and cross the line.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmad, or Happy Holiday, and prosperous New Year!

I want to put in my $.2. Some sensual massage providers consider themselves not to be sex workers. They have all sorts of reasons. Some are planning to be in the business for a short time. Others are in it for the long haul. Therefore, they want to have clearly defined boundaries, so as not to burn out.

Others consider themselves sex workers. In this case, the finish they give does not make them any different from another type of provider. If an escort provides a full service finish, it does not make her better or worse than a sensual massage provider. It is just somewhat different.

If you are talking to a sensual massage provider and you want to know if she considers herself a sex worker, as her if she would ever go into a 5 star hotel and solicit in the lounge. If she says yes, she considers herself a sex worker. If she says no, then no.
