I've visited Kyoto on and off for several years and it's currently my preferred spa.  Nice shower but alas the shower table is gone.  Rubs are usually a bit better than avg on the back side, less so on the front.  The more experienced attendants are usually better.  Xtras are variable thing.  If they know you always treat your lady with respect and don't get grabby, good things can come your way.  Nice tips when well deserved don't hurt either.
