I've been looking forward to the grand prix since news broke of it two years ago. It should be a great time.
I haven't seen an unusual glut of ads for visiting girls this weekend. Not sure Indycar moves the needle enough to draw the providers in the way a Super Bowl, etc., does, but racing does draw pretty civy girls from around the world. There certainly will be plenty of corporate types who like to hobby visiting this weekend.
Don't expect the economic impact to be very strong. The economic impact of sporting events is way overblown. Figures of "the impact on the local economy" mostly state the gross income of the owners/promoters/etc. From what I understand, Labor Day weekend has traditionally been slow in Baltimore, so the hotels, restaurants, etc. will do better than usual, but most of that capital flows out from the city pretty quickly.
I do believe, however, that Baltimore was able to secure Federal funds to pay for the repaving. That's probably going to be the greatest impact of the event on the city. Pratt St., Light St., etc. have been overdue for repaving.
being an automotive enthusiast, I am quiet excitied with anticipation leading up to this weekends activities. How about you? I would think it would bring providers to town, and definitly plenty of clients, hotels maybe come scarce.
Opinions on the race, or it's affect on the local hobby seen, and economy, and or the traffic nightmare it has caused.
My ATF and I are going to tomorrow's practice session! I was a big IndyCar fan back in the CART days and she's a NASCAR fan. We couldn't work our schedules to be there the whole weekend, but at least we are getting in some practice (and watching the cars practice on the track too! lol).
Well, ATF and I hauled our hineys out of bed on Friday so that we could be there in time for the IndyCar practice at noon. Well, the BGP folks were still finishing up the catch fencing until 1:30. So we finally got to see the Mazdas and ALMS cars before ATF had to head to the airport. But now she (a NASCAR fan) is hooked on road racing, and we're having a great time watching the IndyCar race on our respective TV's and swapping messages back & forth...

So much for a B'more run to Phillips Seafood Buffet. Fornicate me, I was so in the mood too!
