Looks like I will be making my 1st ever trip to Madison Gras in 2016. I'm trying to find a hotel that is close enough (hammered walking distance) to the action, clean and not a million dollars a night. 2-300 per night is the range I'm trying to target. What do you locals think? As the time gets closer, I'll be looking for a friend or to to hang out with as well.
But the festivities leading up to Mardi Gras start in early January. And no, it's definitely not too soon to start making plans. Hotel rooms will start booking up and becoming more and more expensive or unavailable as the date nears. Well rated 3 and 4 star hotels can still be found for approximately 175+ per night. I hope you have a magnificent first Mardi Gras experience!
I drove from Florida thru Louisana during Mardi Gras, not thinking about the timing, and was not able to find a hotel room until I got into Texas, and even that was a hit or miss and very expensive. Planning ahead of time is imperative, and definitely worth it. Driving thru alone was exciting with all the festivities..lol..enjoy yourself!
