I have had a few FMTY meetings in beautiful New Orleans and I plan to tour in the fall. I've fallen in love with the people, the food and the history.
I have not yet toured, I tour from fall to spring. When I'm touring again, where is the best place to stay? Are there farm to table restaurants and farm markets? I don't like to get my food from grocery stores or chain restaurants if I can help it. The most important question...where are the best historical places to visit? I'm learning more of the history as I've developed a strong interest. Are there any places I want to avoid? Is there anything else I should know? Your answers are greatly appreciated! Becca Blossoms
I’m originally from NOLA and can give some advice on where to stay and where to avoid. Stay somewhere close to the CBD. There is a lot of traffic day and night. The quarter is very safe during the day, but at night can get rowdy, so just keep your wits about you. If someone says they know where you got your shoes, you may think no way and bet them. They’ll say you got your shoes on Bourbon streets and then ask u to pay up. Restaurants - Couchons, Napoleon House, Galitiores, Mandinas, Pascal Manales, Superior Seafood. Felix’ Acme Oyster house, Palace Cafe - and the list goes on. Take a ride on the. st Charles streetcar and enjoy the view. Also, stop off along the route - ask the driver - for drinks on the veranda at Columns Hotel. It’s like being in pre civil war NOLA. Also ask them to tell you about the ghosts there. It’s haunted.
