How I feel about clients: "Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." - This quote by Confucius describes how I feel about every client.  It's not always physical appearance in a man that makes him a beautiful person.  By truly keeping my eyes open I often see beauty in a man's wit, his intelligence, the caring and gentleness of his touch, his sincerity or sense of humor.  There's something beautiful about every man and by finding it, it means he and I both have a more enjoyable and satisfying time together.''

Confucius had many wise things to say, but he didn't hold an enlightened view of women.

Actually, the quote I gave does not seem to be in the "Analects," which is considered the best source of authentic Confucian statements. So I will withdraw it as suspect or from a disciple. However, the main quote about women in the Analects isn't much better, comparing women with unruly servants, depending on the translation.

BTW, I don't mean to get into a tiff with anyone. I just want to point out that the Confucian tradition places women in a subservient tradition--"Confucians taught that a virtuous woman was supposed to uphold 'three subordinations': be subordinate to her father before marriage, to her husband after marriage, and to her son after her husband died." Men could have concubines and see prostitutes, but women were meant to be chaste and never marry or even have sex after the death of a husband, even if the wife was still young. And so ends my lecture. :)

You are actually correct Tufu. What I should have said is that within historical context, what he said was not out of the ordinary.  Here are three quotes by Aristotle.

“A proper wife should be as obedient as a slave.”
“The male is by nature superior and the female inferior; one rules and the other is ruled."
“Men’s courage is shown in commanding and women’s in obeying.”

And even in relatively modern times Jayne Mansfield said “Women, by nature, want to be dominated.”

Confucius and others held these negative attitudes towards women for centuries and we are still fighting for genuine equality.

...and I have looked.

Many women who spoke of looking for equality from their male partner were disappointed if he did not "dominate" in certain areas (which sends confusing signals to the men).

Conversely, many men who are interested in strong women eventually feel overwhelmed by them and long for something simpler.

Sometimes I question how much our species is capable of having GENUINE equality (and I didn't say androgyny...I don't think the two go together, although many traditionalists say the first can't exist without the other), but I think the issue is more related to personal enlightenment than gender roles. I think the more enlightened a person is, the more natural a state equality is for them, and the more they seek that out in a partner.

Just my .02

As far as equality, I think men and women can agree that there should be full equality under the law, and equal access to education and the business world--no glass ceiling. As far as interpersonal relations, one is always dominate, either male or female. In that world, well, I'll let couples sort that out for themselves. :)

As it happens the bigger head does think more than the smaller head at times..lol..sorry my 2 yuans worth
