It's do-able as long as you are polite, honest and respectful. Be confident and don't act nervous. Take the attitude of making a doctor's appointment. If they agree to see you expect to be under surveillance so Don't Do Anything Stupid! My first time I had no references BUT I was watched the whole time. These people don't play. There was a guy in a parked car on the street that watched me go in the building and a guy in the living room in the apartment. The curtain was drawn so I didn't see him but it was clear someone was there from intentional noise and cigarette smoke. The girl was reassuring but also said the guy was there for "safety." Just go with the program and don't make any unusual requests on your first visit. Shower if she says shower(even if you just did). Use the mouthwash when she pours it for you even if you're minty fresh. They are looking out for guys that won't pay, might hurt the girls, or insist on risky behaviors. Don't show up drunk, high or disheveled and be polite. I can't overemphasize "being polite." Asian people, especially Koreans and Japanese, are extremely polite and consider Americans to be rude. Even if you don't know their customs, extra effort in terms of manners will be noticed and appreciated. Like any good business relationship, privileges increase over time and comfort level. Play nice, play safe.
Some don't even bother to check your references. I rattled off 3 names (which were real references) but the booker immediately accepted that w/o checking and booked the appointment. You just have to sound confident. Even if they do check your fake references, you can still maintain your bluff and claim you saw them. Who's to say that every booker keeps track of every single customer. Again, if you sound confident (but not like LE), then you can get in.
