I reside in both great CA cities & make the drive daily, or weekly sometimes. Do you use the 73 toll road? I always, do & I love the coastal views on the 5 simply beautiful!
Westcoast is the best & Southern California is my ATF.
but if you're anywhere close to rush hour, the 73 is the only choice. I also have many peeps that make the LA coastal run down to the OC and back that swear on PCH versus the 405. depends what you mean when you say "LA." and what time of day.

I like the drive especially south of Irvine. I put on my tunes enjoy the view and get lost in thoughts of ... who will be the lady this trip. Because of the odd hours of my work it is not always possible for some afternoon delight. But when it happens I remember why that drive is so wonderful!

If it looks like traffic I use the 73 but would really prefer the 5 instead of dropping in on the 405.
