Non-US members lose access to TER

Apparently us US customers are now blocked on TER. I had to use a VPN to log on. Looks like finding providers and reviews will become harder for all.

But going the VPN route is better than nothing.

I can't believe this is happening.

My biggest concern is the impact on the provider market. I doubt every hobbyist are savvy enough to use VPNs shrinking the consumer market, and certainly introducing barriers for anyone looking to become a hobbyist.

*sigh*.. This sucks..

People said the same thing when review systems went online and people started using text messages.  There was a fear that introducing technology into the equation would decimate the market.

you should be using a VPN anyways.  So this is not really new.  I'm routed through a VPN 24/7 if my machine has an active connection.

...censorship.  And very unamerican.  Honestly wouldn't have conceived this happening in our country. But where this a will, there is a way and many ladies from the area are here as well.
Nature always finds a way. Especially human nature.

Censorship?  TER is a private organization.  It can decide to not do business in the United States if it chooses.  Property rights are at the core of US law.  You can't compel a private company to allow you to conduct business with them on your terms.

Anything that makes accessibility harder will turn a lot of people off. Companies spend a lot of time, money, and resources trying to make things as easy as possible because they know how quickly people give up. Many who are not in the know will be quickly discouraged after seeing the initial message from TER about not allow folks in the US to access the site. Others will simply be scared away or decide it is not worth it altogether - seeing providers is supposed to be fun and relatively easy, so having to put any extra effort into seeing someone will be a mood killer (at least for a while)

I am happy to know anyone who seeks me out is genuinely interested in seeing me, and I’m happy to participate on the boards because, at the moment, I *want* to be here.

Glad I use a VPN also.  In speaking to Law Enforcement friends, this was mainly caused by Backpage.  I do not blame Backpage, but it was viewed as aiding in the illegal trafficking of underage and forced providers.  I hope TER will still allow its US members to keep our accounts.  Individual escorts with their own websites will be safe.  If they link to over 5 other providers or link to websites such as TER and others, that MAY be a problem.  This is our new reality unless the courts shoot down this B.S. law.

So far Eros is still up and I would renew but if its on the verge of being shut down then maybe not such a good idea. Anyone know anything?

Eros is not based in the U.S. I'm still there.

Well, thankfully, I have a few ladies that I know and love seeing, so I plan to stick with them and others they know. If they retire I just may have to as well.

I can't imagine TER will be able to stick around with the loss of the US ad revenue, so this take down of US access may be just the next step in it's demise. There are a few other sites out there, but I'm not expecting any of them to stick around either.

Sad to see this all change like this... funny though on the one side, probably good for my pocket book, but that consideration aside, I'll miss the community and conversation.  Met some great people thu this site.

Play safe,

DkG

The new law was hatched to stop human trafficking orgs.  You lost me on what that has to do with the independent ladies that are not affiliated with agencies.  I feel perfectly safe seeing new girls that are independent, even if they have a booking assistant.  What I WILL do is stop seeing new ladies that have zero reviews.  Any ladies that have three or four reviews are going to remain on my TDL, even if I haven't personally seen them before.

if you can wait it out.. as one avenue has trouble.. others open up. TER has been a great place for connections for me for a long time. I hope they make it through.
