And don't get me started on the weather--I don't know how many more blue-sky, 70 degree days in February I can stand.

Putting aside the fact that the whole idea was largely mythical, remember that this state is a gathering place for people from all over the world. Same for providers. Which means lots of non-blondes. Having said that, there are some spectacular "California blondes" on my resume. Of the 12 I can remember, only 4 were born and raised here (or so they told me). The rest were from France, Russia, Sweden, and the East Coast.Being in LA, I would think there would be a higher ratio of California Girl types of escorts. First, of course the City can and should do better. Nothing in any of my comments suggests otherwise. We--like any big city or region--have lots of problems to fix. Graffiti, homelessness, abandoned property that attracts both, you name it. And I want us to do better. In that connection, Venice looks a hell of a lot better now than just 2 years ago; a work in progress, but better.
And I think we also agree we have very different definitions of "shithole". I choose not to paint the entire city with a brush dipped in the paint of skid row.
Back in the early 90s, when I was fresh out of high school, Venice was a rough place. By the beach was great. But a few blocks away it was littered with drug dealers, street hookers, and gang activity. It was very unsafe. Venice High School was a really bad school. They had lots of gang activity. These days, there are expense homes and apartments, low crime, and it's a very safe area. And, Venice is one of the better public schools in LAUSD. They have a really good STEM Magnet program. The city has really transformed. And, it's not the only city that has come a long way.
So, while some areas are still bad. And, homelessness has become a bigger issue. There are also numerous examples of cities that have gotten much better.

Yep, it's such a hellscape in LA that buyers are paying on average $900k for the privilege of living here. It's why there are now beautiful new apartment buildings in parts of Hollywood that used to be ghost towns. It's why we're building a city-to-sea metro. It's why entire neighborhoods around the former no-man's-land of Sunset Boulevard have been revitalized. It's why there's a bustling arts, music and food scene downtown where you'll find young couples walking around areas that were cultural deserts when I moved here. It's why West Adams has become trendy and upscale. It's why we built new housing specifically for homeless vets and got hundreds of them off the street in West LA. It's why the Valley continues to grow and develop, not just in Sherman Oaks and Studio City, but in revitalized North Hollywood and Van Nuys.
LA has and likely will always have problems, just like every part of America. I work on homelessness issues for a living so I know that remains a huge problem to be solved. But, just like people who think you'll be attacked by a homeless junkie once you step out of the airport in San Francisco and instead find a beautiful and vibrant city with innumerable lovely neighborhoods and attractions, so any visitor to or resident in LA will find an amazing city with terrific multicultural offerings. Maybe check out the real LA instead of the fox news version.

The city used to be pretty open, now almost every house has a fence or bushes that are most likely higher than the building code limit.
The streets, like Wilshire Blvd which should be one of the better ones, are double fucked up with potholes and just uneven and bumpy, and in all those neighborhoods you said were so great too. I've been on jungle roads that had bomb craters during monsoon season that were smoother!
The town reminds me of TJ when I was a teenager, and that has NOTHING to do with race. So don't even throw that at me!
Now the homeless encampments or single tents, kind of understandable, but almost all are surrounded by mini, at the least, trash dumps.
And the inconsiderate people of LA treat the streets like trash cans, I've seen too many times where people are right next to a trash can and throw their trash on the ground. It happens all the time on my street, and I live in one of the most sought after neighborhoods in LA. If it's not visitors, it's the workers that are supposed to be fixing up the homes.
