Maybe I'm alone, but I like the ads, as long as it doesn't turn into an "ad board", but we're very, very far from that.

Bad enough that we have separate boards for OC and LA.  Both of which are pretty much dead, by internet message board standards.

I think it's fine for the ladies to post ads, cuz we needs to know and it's good for their biz (like my grammar AR? wink) But so many, geez, and add to that they push fun, lively, informative threads off into the abyss - page 2, that is not so good. Has anyone ever posted on page 2 or 3?

Here's a suggestion...

How about a new thread each day - MONDAY'S PROVIDER ADS  (one for each day) - and all ads are posted under that - like a theme/picture thread, this them is ADS. There can even be a 'link' in the message that goes to the last 3 or 4 days threads - 'Previous Ad Threads' which makes it easier for anyone wanting to check the ads for the last several days.

Sure, that one thread could get pretty long, but it is only ONE thread and for those who don't know, each discussion page has 25 threads, regardless of how many posts. Maybe TER could program a little collapse icon for that one thread and then we'd be in heaven, eh?

Some part, not sure how much, of an ad's effectiveness is due to it being 'where the action is' - and that would be the discussion board.

Yes the Discussion board is where "it's" happening but at least on an AD board your AD doesnt interfere with the flow of the discussions being or attempted at being discussed.

as far as the Discussion page being the "where it's happening page", why would you insert an advertisement there and possibly derail a discussion being discussed because the most likely scenario would be it going to page 2 so fast.

Your suggestion may work , but still the ads kill the discussion threads. Besides the ad tsunamis kill any action that once existed on this board.

Besides the ads you have  theme picture day this theme picture day that. We do not need to worry about the independent business prospects if they provide excellent service at a reasonable price and maintain a positive attitude. ,    

go something like this "Hope everyone is doing ok in the hurricanes". One sentence, not concerned at all about the hurricane or whatever, then has the fucking audacity to put a link to her website. Now that really gets to me!

You know darned well  it is just an excuse to put that link out there. and that is just WRONG and insensitive.

The ads should go to a separate board, as should the Pic specials.  These are killing active discussion.  Old Timers will recall how lively the board was back in the Jurrasic Era....  The Adshave gotta go!

Great point, but look at me a provider who just posted an ad & your discussion post get's more hits, so now I have another idea.  What if TER regulated active TER members only.  If you do not hobby, or only once a year your TER status & priveliges are not as great as a Elite member who is really a huge part of this community by sharing their experiences, and taking the time to write a review.  My twin & I just attended a M&G when I was conversing with the fellas we discovered several have never hobbied at all, they were still virgins after almost a year of being on the board.  WTF!

Sorry, but if you have not got the balls to play maybe you should not be allowed to post because I only care about the opinions of men who are active.  Just my 2 cents.

I hope that  you are not  suggesting restricting the rights of those who pay for the privilege to be  part of this community simply to accommodate those who post ads ,free of charge , to generate business.

I do not write reviews , but based on the low volume  claims by some of those who post ads , on any given week I  most   likely see  more girls (K-girls to be exact) than they agree to see clients. So who is more active ?

It is much simpler to have a dedicated page for providers to post Ads and themed picture and to leave this page exclusively for discussion amongst and between hobbyists and providers without having to plough through a mountain of ads. My 2 bits..

   

Actually I do have to agree, I think an ad page might be simpler. I think you guys would still look through it right? I mean you open our ads KNOWING they are ads now! I think the guys like to check in on their favorite ladies (as well as new) and would check out an ad page after they went through the discussions. I mean let's face it....WHAT THE HECK ARE WE DICSCUSSING AFTER ALL?!! Tee hee!!!

. . . it's sometimes fodder for great entertainment.   Also, I don't think providers would go for a thread to advertise, they don't want to be the 10th person that day on a provider ad thread.  Low visibility.

So I actually have to agree with you Dbara, I think a separation would be good.  And I did notice a little spelling mistake of yours (can't help it), which I will be happy to point out to you later, with a smile on my face.  :-P

So here is why I agree....

1) I like to read through the boards as much as the guys, because I think the conversations are entertaining and such.  I don't like having to look through the ads to find such conversations.   If we can condense the subject matter on the boards by segmenting ads and discussions, then I think it might actually just be a little more user-friendly.

2) If a gent is in the mood to "scope out" who and what is available, I think you have all more than proven yourselves capable at that.  Between you guys finding those random fake ads on CV and reading all the newest reviews, you all seem to have a disciplined knack for doing your research when "the mood strikes."   So I am more than confident that if there was a separate board for the ads, you would most certainly be checking it and checking it often.  

3) As it is now, us providers end up getting pushed down to the 5th or 10th in the line-up of ads almost as soon as we post, so its not really any different to create another board for us.   The biggest difference would be that our ads are not competing for the same space as the numerous conversations that pop up so frequently.

Think about it (this is being addressed to the providers), have you ever been the one to post right before a conversation that became popular and several people posted responses?  That means your ad gets pushed further down the page and might even get ignored after everyone is done reading and chiming in.  By having our own board, we will only get pushed down one entry at a time, maybe two if she posts an additional picture or comment to her ad.   That means we would stay on page one or two longer than we do now.   That translates to better visibility for us.

*If TER did program a collapse icon for the discussions, this piece of my argument becomes null and void.


....So there you have it, my reasoning as to why we should have a separate board for the ads.  

As long as we get to flirt with you guys over there and you still post tasty pictures when Amsterdamm makes up a thread!!!!

Clearly, from a provider perspective, too often ads do not get much read simply because they get bumped out from page 1 as soon as they get up. This is not doing a great service to many providers, both local and especially visiting ladies, who many times had to post with months of advance and as often as they can to get some business going.

From a hobbyst perspective, the above is not that good. In terms of a segmentation approach to ads and discussion, much will depend on TER capabilties and willing. Clearly, as it goes, both discussions and ads are making the board more a quagmire that anything else: as Alyssa said, very often, ads get 'punished' simple because a hot debated discussion start and the ads get pushed out of visibility. Other times, ads stay as long as there is no long discussion flowing here and there.

In the end matching and maximizing the value of ads and discussion is a political choice, and I'm not sure if TER see the problem in this way. High turnover in ads, sketchy discussions, and fast-moving pace of thread correspond to a design strategy that maximize economic utility from an economic perspective...

That's very true and something I did forget to consider.  If I was on the administrative side of TER, I'm sure I would feel that things are fine as they are.  No need to expend more time, manpower, and money to fix something that really isn't broken.  It does not really make good business sense, I think it would just be purely for existing customer satisfaction.   It isn't like this is an issue that is keeping people from joining or causing customers to leave.  

It is important to see things from all perspectives, so good job on reminding us of that, beautifulmind.

Provider's ads title should be highlighted so one can easily identify an ad from a discussion topic.
Easier and faster then coding in another board for every city.  

I dont have a problem skimming the boards but it seems to be for many.
If this is the case, then make a posting for this change in the policy and suggestions boards.

...so before making any changes, they have to find the way those changes have sense from an economic perspective. When they changed the format of the webiste from the Classic to the New, there was a huge discussion all over the boards, with tons of protest and criticism. Now, pretty much the new design has been accepted by all users, in one why or another. These changes, made sense from an economic perspective, since the objective were to increase the turn over of ads, thus increasing the number of new ladies joining exposure, accelerating the pace of threads which were too often stuck into bla-bla-bla type of discussion, thus maximizing the visibility return of the space that ads take, which will increase the high turned of ladies giving sense of 'new' stuff coming in each day, plus, decreasing the space of discussion increase the space of ads, which in turn increase the monetary return to TER (banner, etc.) while at the same time push the 'competition' for space higher and higher among ladies.

There are lots of discussion boards on TER and people can switch there if 'talking' is their main interests. But within City Board, the new approach and design has produced pretty good economic return, as far as I can see: lots of new ladies joining TER, huge increase in the number of reviews on a monthly basis, tons of ads coming in locally and by traveling ladies.

So there is an economic logic buried under design and technicalities, and as it goes, the New TER will make changes only, and only if, these changes will have a positive economic return, which is to say, that, having more ads that discussion is not separate from the way the New TER format was designed...

Scholars who have studied new technologies have theorized the advent of 'space-time compression' as result of innovation in design...to me, TER, is turning 'space-time compression' into an interesting business model. High-turnover, fast-pacing, speed-up are the new pillar of this model, and I guess, discussions are not what make this model driving in the direction they wanted with the changes they made with the new format...

So from a financial perspective how does posting an ad work?  Do providers have to pay TER to post ads?  If the answer is yes, then why would TER create a different ad board for you guys.  It would be in their interest to have your ads pushed down into invisibility, so that you are forced to post again. If on the other hand posting an ad is free, then an ad board makes good sense.

If there are no more new threads started on this page - and this one thread gets a 100 or more new responses, the 25th thread will still be on the first page.

Responses within a thread do not push anything to page 2. Yes, long threads DO cause greater need for scrolling, but most users scan down the entire first page, at least until they see a 'mental' reminder of where they last viewed.

So, scrolling down the first page, happens way more than not, navigating to the 2nd page happens way, way less often.

That is why I suggested a 'collapse/expand' button for a potentially looooooong provider ad thread.
